Have domestic flights coming up and Qantas sent email offering access to the upgraded domestic club lounge in Brisbane for $39PP. Can anyone advise if this is worth it ie does it still have the overcrowding issues it apparently had in the past, what is the food/drink like?

Considering the lounge has not been re-opened as yet, it will depend when your flights are if this is good value or not ;)

Flight from Brisbane is early March so I assume it will be opening soon!

The current public opening is set for March 11th. This is for the Business Lounge, but one presumes that includes the QC also.

If the flight is before then, then no the offer is not worth it IMHO.

Yes, it is so that is very good to know. I had just assumed it was already up and running. But thinking about it, the upgrade couldn't just occur overnight, could it? or have they upgraded it in stages so it could still stay open? My flight is only a few days before the official opening so maybe it will have been totally finished by then.

The upgrade has been happening for some months now and the current lounges are disrupted as a result (reduced in available space etc). Hence, there's crowding at times, and it can be rather hot in there (or has been past few visits) with portable units being installed helping but not a lot.

Will be there this Saturday and hopefully things are improving as the work nears completion, but still 2 or so weeks to go.

The Qantas Club is operating at a reduced capacity to accommodate a temporary J lounge. When the full J lounge opens, the Qantas Club will regain the space it has lost... presumably.

If they plan on removing the temporary J lounge leading up to the official opening, leading to a few days where everyone is simply in the Qantas Club, it will be very busy when you are there ;)

Of course old timers may recall that the QC always took up the whole footprint until the J lounge was introduced, and they carved up the QC to provide space for the J lounge (similar to MEL and SYD, though SYD is much less of a big deal due to the huge footprint of that space).

Prior to the new BNE J lounge opening, the only purpose built/dedicated spaces have been in CBR and PER.

It will be good for the J/OWE pax to have the new space in BNE and open up that whole area again for the QC for sure :)

Glad I thought to ask on this forum - think I will save my money! Thanks all

For $39, arrive last minute - go straight to the plane and put that money towards a good bottle of wine

Agree it is not worth it.

But interesting to see they are still making these offers. Not too sure the merits of offering access to an upgraded lounge that, as far as we can tell, will not actually exist on the day...

Visited the QF BNE QC on Wednesday 12th and it was a decided mess come construction site. The ladies amenities were being upgraded with temporary facilities near the reception desk which Mrs nonscenic discovered wasn't easy to find and were crowded. The furniture in the lounge was terribly past its use by date and I have seen better chairs on the nature strip awaiting the hard rubbish collection. One can only hope that now the Business lounge has been completed that attention will be given to replacing the furniture and carpets in the domestic lounge

Went through today. Qantas Club lounge was closed. Passengers were allowed to use the business lounge.
