I was FF silver status but am back to basic bronze now. Does that mean I won't be getting any other complimentary passes?

I plan to take my partner overseas later this year, is there any way of getting her passes for the Sydney/Singapore/Heathrow and return leg?

That's correct.

You can always ask here, often people have spare passes they don't mind giving away, otherwise check the thread that shows where people are travelling, someone may be able to guest you in.

If you are a QC member however, could you not just guest her in yourself? Or is she travelling by herself?

She will be flying with me, so I suppose that is possible.

Its just that I found myself excluded from the Qantas Club at 6am in HK. (and not being able to use the Qantas Club lounge in Sydney for the same reason) as I was booked on a Cathay Pacific leg by Qantas, with other Qantas legs, but apparently my Qantas Club card wasn't enough to get me in. They told me I if I had a guest pass that would have got me in despite having a Cathay boarding pass.

I suppose in short I am just playing it safe based on the assumption that if I have a spare guest pass or two, then entry for either myself or partner shouldn't be a hassle.

Ah, you must be travelling on a QF/BA/AA flight to be able to enter.

You are probably right, its jsut that I had this misguided belief that having paid annual membership fees to the Qantas Club, I actually was a member but it seems I have to have an acceptable boarding pass to actually be a member?

Have a good read of this page...
It should clarify the access you have as a QC member.

Flying with Us - Qantas Club - Lounge Access

I can remember getting little packs of passes, then I used to get single passes stuck on the back of QC letters but that has been a long time ago.
Those were Member's Guest Passes. Back then, each member was provided with a limited number of guest passes each membership year. They could only be used for allowing a guest to enter with a member. They were made obsolete when the rules were relaxed so a member can take a guest to the lounge any time they are travelling, so no need to have the guest passes any more.

The current passes being discussed are Complementary Invitations, which can be used without being accompanied by a member. These are sent to QFF members who attain or re-qualify for Silver status, one per year.

If you reach Silver status you will receive one.

Amex had a recent promotion where people taking out a new card (of the correct type) were provided with 2 invitations.

Thanks for being so patient and explaining this all to me NM.
Much appreciated.
By the sounds of it I will have to beg or buy one??

Paul,

As they say 'there is more than one way to skin a cat'

I suggest you post some more details of what you want/need, as people are generally only to happy to help out where they are able.

Members will often take a guest into the lounge or if someone has some spare invitations they may offer them to you.

I will be flying out of LHR to SYD in May with QF, I have a complimentary pass that was sent to me late 07. Will I be able to gain access to the BA lounge at LHR with the pass?

G'day macca172. On the back of the pass, it states:

Complimentary Invitation said:
Invitations are valid for Qantas operated lounges only and are not valid for oneworld alliance airline, partner airlines lounges or associated lounges, and are subject to Qantas Club Terms and Conditions.
According to the Qantas website, the BA lounge in LHR is an associated lounge for Qantas Club purposes, therefore, you will not be admitted on this basis.

Thank you for that info, much appreciated...Oh well looks like five quid coffee in the departure lounge!

Macca

And we all know LHR has the worst dragons of them all !

But on the upside the coffee should be a little less than 5 quid, i think i paid about 3 last time i was there (well i didn't pay, it was BA vouchers for delayed flights even though i also had lounge access, so i thought i may as well use them up on chocolate bars for later in the trip, maybe i should have sold them....)

As a Qantas Club member, with no status, and flying Cathay Pacific in WHY would not normally allow entry into the Qantas lounge.

There could possibly be someone flying at the same time as you and guest you into the Lounge. There are also kind people on AFF that have given away complimentary invitations in the past. Most people prefer to give them to family members or to get some reward for them in a trade agreement. Yes I know QF does not encourage selling of complinentary invitations but it does happen.

I get 2 complimentary invitations a year with Qantas Amex Premium credit card. But with the renewal fee of $195/year charged to my account in January I would not give the complimentary invitations away, even to family.

JohnK,

This might sound like a silly question but as a WP what do you do with the invitations then :?:

but if returning via Singapore, the invitation could be used at the transit point for a freshen-up shower. The SIN lounge is a Qantas Club lounge.

I have had a few requests on AFF from people who had a need for them.

Without being too blunt I would be expecting, and have received, something in return....

Some people will do any thing for their beer of choice. (Crown Lager in JohnK's case)
There are limits even for the beer of choice....
