Qantas CL approached by VA

I agree with this 100%.Why give an "off the record" interview if you dont want the subject to be "on the record".Semantics maybe but still true.

Correct and to a journalist.... You only tell people something if you want it to be printed/typed up.....

As for zachary.august - Who started this thread, they could work for VA for all we know and wanted feedback on our thoughts, as most of us here are heavy flyers....

zachary.august - Not saying you do or don't work for Virgin or Qantas etc but I am just saying :) Thanks for starting this thread though

Getting back OT, I am surprised how much is known about the CL, I would have thought discretion was the word?

I don't quite get you. A close relative was CL for years and I traveled with him a number of times as did many others. Is there some secrecy provision to being a member like in a Lodge?

No provision but I am guessing its implied, given the lack of publicity surrounding its benefits on the QF site or by QF PR, including news of CL renovations etc.

Well all I hope is that if Virgin do get a CL style lounge they call it something like 'Chairpersons Lounge'. I have always been a bit concerned that if I did get invited by Q to be a CL member, how I would live it down .. not being a man as in Chairman.

EH

Emily, that's fighting talk!
Apparently! ;)
There is another recent thread with 70+ posts on the topic.
I bowed out after a while. Not much prospect of the views changing as a result of the debate, on either side of the fence.;)

I don't want to start an argument with you 'lovestotravel' but I have first-hand knowledge on this because my brother is a journalist who has done many 'rounds' with a major Australian newspaper. What is your source of 'expertise' on this tpic which makes you better informed?
Umm, wouldn't the fact that its your brother who is the journalist make it "second-hand knowledge" to you? and now third-hand to us?

Yes.

Don't be silly, 'off the record' briefings happen all the time, or are you an 'expert' in the media who knows better than my brother who is a journalist with a major newspaper?

Off the record conversations happen all the time. An ethical journalist respects those confidences because you are nothing without your sources. Off the record conversations are used for all sorts of reasons and usually the source of the comments (when they are designed to published) are never known...until someone goes after the journo through the courts and subpoenas the source material for whatever story is printed.

Isn't it the favourite way for politicians to start, continue or end feuds:!:

Moot point for me, it's not like l'll ever get an invite to either QF/VA's uber top tier...

Interesting that Silver is "above" QP...

PS is earned, QP is bought. PS is higher in the pecking order than QP.

I too belong to a super secret program, its called the stonecutters. But shhh its a secret....

Reminds me of the QP on a Friday night.

Did they call on your mobile on a private number?

It's usually a case of calling the PA who calls the CL not unlike the Hollywood mantra of "have your people call my people".

Correct. 'Off the record' just means 'you can't say I told you this'. My brother gets a lot of off the record, all the journalists in his areas do, but he says that if someone puts a name against it in a story they are not trusted again and their sources dry up. But you can still use it, that's why so many stories write 'according to sources' or 'tipped to happen' or that sort of thing. They are not making guesses, they have inside knowledge which has been deliberately shared with them on the condition that they don't attribute it to a particular person or source.

whatever sources journalists may use, so far here there is only one person claiming the possible future existence of VA Invite+. Whether you believe this is a credible source or not is up to each member.

Please note that AFF does not validate the factual accuracy of what members post. So long as posts adhere to the forum posting guidelines they are ok. The only members who have been validated as being who they claim to be are those flagged as "Authenticated Company Reps". So anything that is not referenced, validated, or officially published and not coming from an Authenticated Company Rep, remains a rumour. So far this seems to be a single unauthenticated source, so in my view its a rumour at this time.

SteveJohnson,

I understand what you are saying but please also respect that others have alternate knowledge that contradicts what you are saying. Quite possible that 'off the record' occurs on some topics but not others.

I do personally relate to the comments from markis10 re Anti Trust training and I'm talking about companies who are much, much bigger than any mentioned here.

In any case we have, yet again, 'drifted' away from the main topic.

Soooooo.......... is CL better than the F lounges? What makes it so special?

Well.. it starts with being handed a luxurious smoking jacket & matching slippers, escorted to your private suite whereupon you are fed hand-peeled grapes...

I thought the diplomatic representatives of Her Majesty's Government were suppose to be discrete?

Just more public servants who want to feather there own nest on Taxpayers money.

QF don't respect the individual they only respect the money that the account generates.

At the end of the day they work for us.

The majority of public servants I know are hard working fantastic people. And no, I am not a public servant! :D
