For those interested in such information, Qantas has just announced they will be using GE's new GEnx engines with their fleet of 787 aircraft. These are the same engines that GE has developed for the 747-8.

And in other news, GE this week have tested the GEnx engine in flight aboard their 747 test aircraft, taking it to 43,000 feet and collecting baseline data that will be used for subsequent test flight comparisons.

Look like a good engine, notice they also have bleed air versions as well as the standard non versions that will be used in 787.
I hope they are quiet !

Any idea what LH will choose for there 747-8's ?

Bleed air version is for the A350 and the 747-8. They are supposed to be quiet and with airframe changes allows compliance with the latest noise restrictions.
Boeing only offers the GEnx, modified, on 747-8 so there is no choice for LH. This is like the 777-200LR, 777-200F and 777-300ER only have the GE version.

According to the Qantas press announcement, the GEnx is supposed to have a noise footprint 50% smaller than the current 767 engines.

I don't know, but doubt they have made the decision just yet (assuming the choices are GEnx or Trent 1000).
