Qantas catering

One of the reasons I can see for lack of full meals for the full 12 seat occupiers, for the QF domestic J cabin is in lounge upgrades.
If say 6 hours prior to flight, they count on 6 pax, and the rest being empty, they would prepare only 6 meals.
If they had the full 12 pax on manifests 6 hours, they would probably load the full J meal trolley.
And yes, I have used QF domestic and QF trans Tasman J before, and have had, "your choice wasn't loaded" on QF trans Tasman too, so I do know how it feels to not have "my" choice as I had wanted.
That was on a paid tix, and not an upgrade, and yes, I did have the grr factor and fumed under my breath, but didn't say anything out loud.
So it does take both side of the coin, so to speak.

Whilst I agree that if your choice wasn’t loaded, fair cop so to speak, but to have nothing on offer except a plate of soup they are taking the piss.

Lounge upgrades are always catering not assured.

And yes, I have had them come back to me when they didn't have enough catering loaded - they gave me a glass of wine and then came back after they'd done the others. I then got my meal and then the staff travellers got what was left.

With how bad the J catering has gotten in recent times anyway especially with the frozen meals on weekends I usually have a meal at the airport with Priority Pass and then once onboard I'll have a few packets of the pretzel/cashew mix and a glass or two of wine.

Yes, totally agree, don't get me wrong, but some times WP passengers would have paid the economy flex fare and secured an upgrade.
Again, no one to blame, other than the lack of catering from QF.

I certainly agree upgraded pax should not have a higher meal choice priority than those booked in J.

Be fair, it doesn't taste that bad if you have enough wine with it :p

Not that I consider soup to be acceptable as a meal, but they are usually tasty. I often ask for a cup of the soup alongside my 'meal'.

Agree.

I sent back this sad inedible thing a few months back after one bite and had the soup instead. The soup was delicious.

What was this advertised as. It hardly passes as food, although I can recognise rice and capsicum, just. That Neil Perry bloke must be proud of this creation.

So that's why I went hungry. You got the meal and then asked for my soup. :p:D:D
Have to make the most of being P1 while I can. :)

In all seriousness, I'm very confident they will never run out of soup. And I do ask that it only be if there's sufficient to have a taste.

I admit I’ll do this sometimes on a flight where there’s small and large plates available, as an extra first course. Sometimes, ok, every time

Those P1 types........

I found this thread interesting as I will not normally do last minute domestic upgrades unless absolutely needed. When I do travel dom J it is booked in advance and like yourself can pick any seat and tend to monopolise 1C and on the odd occasion it is an operational or SST upgrade I often find myself allocated row 1 most likely allocated by profile preference.

I can not understand how you can miss your preferred choice on J international when you can order up to 7 days in advance. I always do this and if it was the wrong choice just ask for something else on board if available.

Indeed. OT, but QF don't allow F pax to do the same. So bizarre.

I too usually book my travel in advance. But the other day I had a relatively short notice flight so could only get Row 6 on an A330. 'Luckily' the crew took my order about 4th so I had full choice. Sadly the food was awful. Will post it later in relevant thread.

Has anyone seen him flying QF? I recall someone saying they spotted him on EK. Smart man.

About 18 months back he was not far behind me on the escalator heading up to the QF lounge area. I assume he headed for the CL lounge as he was no where to be seen in the J lounge.

I would have actually liked to have been on the same plane to see if he ate the food or just said I have eaten in the lounge. Although I have not been in the CL lounge on a regular basis, when I have, it was good and I am sure an extra effort would have been put into his offering.

I may be wrong but I am sure QF used to offer menu selection in F. Also I nave noticed that the QF J (INT) "online only" meal seems to have gone by the wayside.

Well today on QF464 (MEL-SYD) there were 2 choices: salad and lamb. Most of us tried to eat but the turbulence was pretty hard which resulted in most plates being brought back. But from what I saw, there was enough for 12 of us. Seated in 2C and still had a choice.

We were also served really late (near Canberra). I luckily ate at the lounge where the spice bar offerings were heaps superior.
