Qantas cash. Never again.

Does Qantas Cash warrant PineappleSkip's award of 'never again'?

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Just got an email from Qantas Cash saying from 1 July "Qantas Points will no longer be earned on BPAY payments to third parties, transactions made in operating a business, bank fees and charges, transactions made using Qantas Points, or government related transactions."

Bad news for some people on AFF I'm guessing.

Also in the email: the Debit Card (Instant) Load fee will be lowered from 1% to 0.5% (the limit of one reload every 24 hours remains unchanged); and Qantas Cash will also be changing its name to Qantas Travel Money.

Yep, got that email too.
The VGW is now sweeter a product that QTMC.
Not to mention that under VGW, Bpay and direct debit still earn points, and card expiry lasts 4 years, vs QTMC which is only ever 1 years worth before the card expires.
Will be putting less use via QTMC now.
Edit: sounds too closely like the Travelex Travel Money Card, or the AusPost one to a lesser extent.
Going downhill this card is.

Email yesterday saying to lock in amazing and fantastic highly competitive discounted rates for Qantas cash... but hurry!! Looking at the special rates some of them were around 0.0011c different!! (on a $1000 cash load you'd make one extra dollar)

No thanks.

The exchange rates are rubbish. The only (possible) value is with the more generous bonus points offers for loading foreign currency. For a trip last year I loaded $2000 for 5000 points (and was happy with that as a tradeoff for the poor exchange rate vs 28 degrees), but offers since have not come close to that (and probably won't in future).

I feel a better investment for 5000 points would be Qantas wine. At least then you get 5000 points, potentially more, and some great wine to drink away your indignity of using QCash.

So I'm guessing that even if you use this card exclusively in Oz, there is little or no upside to this over a conventional bank debit card or fee free CC?

Other than you don't need to apply for it, it is given to you. I have a friend who is semi-retired and not earning income so it would be approaching impossible to successfully apply for a CC, this way she can get QFF points on purchases using her own money.

I guess it serves a purpose for those not able or willing to get a points CC. I can only think of the Bankwest QF Debit card off the top of my head and that is only 5 points/transaction + 12?/points per $1000 balance each month from memory.

Definitely not '$5/transaction' rather it's 5 QFF points per transaction. A transaction can be as little as $0.01

Obviously a typo - as per the 0.01c transactions, it is a bit reckless to be providing info such as that don't you think?

No. I would not have posted the information if I thought doing so was careless or reckless. The purpose of post #50 was to correct an error in post #49 and to provide further information on the topic.

All I've done is repeat already available information. Bankwest experiences have already been discussed on both ozbargain and AFF. This topic is discussed extensively here:

Bankwest Transaction account [General Discussion]

So far the opportunity to earn QFF points via Bankwest has been worthwhile for me. I'm currently at 20,000+ QFF points with minimal effort after a few months. All at $0 cost to me. Others should also be able to be informed of such opportunities and be able to make their own (informed) choices.

Considering that a number of recent posts have commented about the closure of accounts, I beg to differ.

Suggest you read all of the available information.

My view is that people should be free to make their own informed decisions. If you want to censor information and act in a paternal manner that's a matter for yourself.

Also suggest moving further discussion about Bankwest to the correct thread.
