Qantas Cash Card

re: Qantas Cash Card

I transferred money on Monday - no sign of it yet! :(

The variations are in part dependent on the time of day the BPay payment is made as that effects when QCash receives the funds. BUT, the demand to make the payment within 4 hours of receipt of the email is a joke when they take 3 business days to give you back your own money. If BPay payments close for that business day at say 6.00 pm AEST then surely they can be honest with the cut off time for payment. Presumably those who loaded on the public holiday still had a demand for payment within 4 hours even though it would not be processed till close of business the following (business) day. Interestingly the BPay terms of use say payments made are required to be acknowledged by the receiving entity on the same day - so the delay is with QCash. 1 day turnaround sounds like a glitch or demonstrates they can do it if they want to.

Some banks cutoff for BPay are remarkably early in the day as well, which may catch a few out. Many of the smaller banks and credit unions are 4PM EST or so.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Hi all
A friend and I returning from Bali, used the long term parking at Perth International, he had been using the Qantas Cash Card with no problems in Bali but went to pay for the car parking on arrival to Perth and the machine would not accept the Qcard. (Card not recognised)
I somehow recall someone on here saying they had a similar problem in one of these threads. Can anyone enlighten me please.

Cheers in advance

re: Qantas Cash Card

I've found, the card can't be used in 'swipe' mode ... you have to 'insert' the card into the reader.

Some store attendants will just swipe 2 - 3 times, then say 'card rejected'.

re: Qantas Cash Card

My friend has told me that this is what he did at the time.
I did insert it correctly with the chip on top and facing inwards. I think I tried at least 3 times, but it said card not recognised.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Did your friend go up or down a status level or have a membership anniversary while on holiday? Sufficient funds?

re: Qantas Cash Card

I couldn't see the point of this card as I have the 24 Advantage card (or whatever it's called now) which serves as my debit card overseas. Works like a treat.

However I just got an offer of 5000 points for putting $1000 on it. I guess I could use it then, by depositing and removing it quickly. Easier than the BankWest deal with $2000 a month for three months.

he had more than enough funds, and there was no upgrade. The auto teller may have just seen it as a debit card not a charge/credit card, perhaps this is the reason. Either way for this to happen at an airport for a Qantas Cash Card is not acceptable and they need to look into it with the operators of the carpark as it devalues its uses.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Exchange rate is not that good. $A1000 buys $NZ1031 whereas xe.com has it at $NZ1079. That's nearly $50 to buy those points. Not bad on some scales I guess but not free that's for sure.

Hmm. Now I know why I didn't bother earlier.

If you could just load it with $A I'd be happier with it.

re: Qantas Cash Card

Indeed you can... however my offer (for 2500 points), says I need to load foreign currency. Probably not worth it...

Yes mine said foreign currency too.

Edit:

Although... I just re-read the email:

Simply load up your card by 29 June 2014 with at least AU $1000 equivalent in foreign currency to receive your bonus Qantas Points. What's more, there are 11 currencies available including Australian Dollars, and you'll earn 1 point per dollar on eligible purchases when you spend in any foreign currency[SUP]^[/SUP].

I didn't see the option though when I was looking at rates. Might try again.

But you can, Warks, you can!

Loading Aud$ will not entitle you to the 5000 bonus points :(

re: Qantas Cash Card

I have also received this offer, do you think it could be as simple as loading USD, receiving the bonus points, then doing a currency transfer back to AUD, and withdrawing funds? (assuming you have no use for foreign currency on the card presently)?

You will have two conversions, I suspect you will lose $90-120 going by a test I did earlier this month:

You would need the currency to shift by almost 10% in most cases, I just did a transfer to NZ and back, $1 AUD became $1.03NZ and then transferred back became AUD$0.91

Ah of course, completely overlooked the currency conversion. I'm currently in Russia, and can withdraw, and have use for USD, so might load 1000AUD equivalent, and withdraw as cash.

Realistically where can you purchase foreign currency at xe.com rates ?

It is not available to smaller players.

re: Qantas Cash Card

citibank debit. And previously, 28 degrees.

Both those cards are almost spot on with xe.

For clarity, the card is a Citibank debit card, but the product name is Citibank Plus.

As MEL traveller said, it's within a fraction of a percent of XE.
