Qantas cancelling 35 return Darwin flights. Q about mine...

G'day.

I have an upcoming QF itinerary on May 10: DRW - SYD - LAX - DEN but they just cancelled the QF829 red eye due to lower demand to Darwin ( see Outline - Read & annotate without distractions )

What will Qantas do? Will they put me on the Jetstar Sydney flight at the same time and not get to use the very handy Qantas inter-terminal bus?

Or in this case can I milk Qantas for as much as possible and go on the afternoon flight the day before and get them to pay for a hotel in Sydney?

Any tips on how to approach the phone call to Qantas?

Generally they can put you in the same cabin +/- 1 day or same day on another flight. You can deny any Jetstar metal option if they try to put you on one.

I'll be interested to hear what happens with this. Are you flying business or economy?

I suspect if you're flying economy, Qantas will try to push you onto the JQ flight instead of paying for accommodation. Maybe worth checking whether travel insurance would cover a hotel too.
