Dear all,

I just booked a MEL-PER in QF J class, I just realised the flight is actually operating by "A332 - doemstic" which the J class is not a Skybed. Can anyone advise if QF Perth routes are actually operating by the Skybed or only a wider seat compared to Y on the A332? As I was thinking even DJ can offer flat bed so why not QF?

Cheers, ilyth

If you are after a skybed between Perth and Melbourne, find a flight that is operated by a A330-300.

*technically it is a sloped flat bed, not fully flat.

Just because Virgin do it doesn't always make it a smart thing to do. Apart from the red eyes, I believe the ideal seat is probably somewhere in the middle of both products.

Welcome to QF.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

For many airlines Regional J (same distance as PER-SYD) does equal International PE.
eg... CX green seats on Regional aircraft
SQ regional seats
Indeed Europe is even worse. ClubEurope on BA often means no-one in the middle seat and slightly more legroom.

There is no way anyone needs a lie-flat bed on a 4hr segment (maybe only on the red-eye)

Lie flat bed is for sleeping.
I would much prefer a well padded PE seat with good recline for a day flight.

I would agree with the EBO/P product.

The other A330 products are not too bad.

As I stated, if you want a bed, find a A330-300 operated flight, and you will get your bed's

Personally, l think that if you end up on either of these, you should be entitled to a discount/refund. $1500 for this product is a bit steep.

Maybe QF have spoiled us with the MkII on DOM sectors, but with VA coming out with a decent J product on their A330's, why should people who fly QF for pretty much the same price get an inferior product. Oh yeah, QF are still flying around the 767's for that price....

There are no sectors that have confirmed MkII Skybeds until all of the 747 refurbs are completed.

Every other Skybed domestic route is generally MkI

Has QF ever run a MkII on DOM??

QF has only announced 9 747 refurbs to MkII.
I suspect there will be some MkI running around for a while.

I think you would loose up to a row of seats by installing MkII - it doesn't make economic sense.

QF8 is the only one I can think of when it runs between BNE and SYD

Sorry, l thought that below was the MkII?

Who knows what you'll end up with l guess. 3 different config Airbus on Transcon routes plus the 767's.

There are two types of Sky Beds.

MKI are on the 330's and the non-refurbed 747's. These are angled flat.

MKII are on the refurbed 747's and 380's. These are lie flat.

MkI has been on the QF581/582 rotation (between the 747 (OJD) and 330 ops)

Thank you.

The pic above is of Mk I. Why??
- TV screen in seat back (actually better as it enables gate to gate IFE unlike on Mk II where it is fold-up)
- The cutout in the seat in front for your feet when in bed more.

As for the 2x3x2 layout (the 2nd pic), I have been on it and didn't actually find it bad (admittedly unlike most views on this Board) versus the 2x2x2 (3rd pic)... Why?
- TV screen in seat back - enables gate to gate - ie 2movies rather than 1.5 on a SYD-PER flight
- Seat actually not that much thinner than 2x2x2 due to removal of the IFE unit enabling the seat dividers to slim
- As for the middle seat - well yes you have one person to climb over to get to the bathroom - but unlike the window you can go both ways.

I also suspect that with the 787 which is wider than the 330, 2x3x2 will become the standard (much like unfortunately EDIT 3x4x3 has become the 777 Y standard) as the airlines need to use the additional width profitably... The beancounters will win in the end... mark my words.

I think you mean 3-4-3 in Y on a 777.

I think 2-4-2 would actually be quite pleasant!
