Qantas Business Rewards weirdness

Booked a multicity through QF Business Rewards website, basically three QF legs then an AA flight no. leg to get to destination and AA, AA, QF to get home again, but the system wouldn't give the business rewards discount. After about two hours of firstly website chat then phone calls the answer was that because the booking had some AA flight numbers in it the system wasn't capable of applying the business rewards discount to the QF flight sectors and there is nothing that QF can do about it and they can't give you the discount any other way. Has anyone else had this problem?

I know this thread is a year old. But I was looking at a multi city QBR booking the other day, with all flight on Qantas. There was no option to pick the different fare categories, and hence there was no discount available. Also I couldn't select from the business travelers list, had to enter all passenger details. Based on that I suspect there is no link to QBR for multi city bookings.
