Qantas bus gates in Sydney

Had to use the bus gate for a JAL flight once. Holy just getting in was a nightmare. There is a swarm of people all hanging around, unable to hear if their flight is called, blocking the way in. Probably about 5 flights at once. Then you get down then you have to wait again, then you wait on a bus for 8 minutes before it finally leaves.

I've scored the bus gates several times now at SYD T1 (mainly on arrival) and it's never been a smooth experience. The one and only time I scored a bus gate on departure (QF87 last December), the flight was delayed past midday so we ended up being reassigned a proper gate with airbridge. Arriving last Friday on QF140, we were directed to Gate 1 (right outside Dnata Freight) where a set of stairs was dutifully waiting for us. It was immediately obvious that these were stairs designed for an A330 (or similar) rather than our B738. Eventually, a more appropriately-sized set of stairs arrived. Sadly, the buses did not (at least for a good while longer).
