Hi all,

Anyone here that got the chance to experience a qantas organized bus ride in replacement of a cancelled flight between nearby cities?

This happened this week between Sydney and Canberra, I was a bit surprised, never seen that before. Also wondering what happens to miles and sc. Nothing so far.

If you don't get after a week or so, ask for Original Routing Credit..

Quite a few years ago some alternative forms of Qantas transport were very popular.

I wonder how often though for someone arriving at SYD (from overseas at least)......the bus to Canberra would actually get them home equally quickly? I usually fly to/from the US with NZ... so on arrival at SYD I jump on the next Murrays bus to Canberra (flexible ticket so whichever bus I CAN get to I can usually get a seat on) Given the speed one usually gets through Immigration/BP these days (at least with those NZ flights arrival times) , and given the awkward location of CBR for many of us - (particularly Belco/Gungahlin)..... I do wonder...

I have quite a few friends who do that. It also means if your international flight is late arriving you don’t have the hassle of missed connections or being put up overnight. We don’t do well on a bus so we haven’t done it. Our preferred method now is Qatar and flying from/into Canberra (albeit with transits in Sydney).

I have only caught the bus once in the past many years. But, I am reminded of the time the bus blew one of the large and heavy tyres in a particularly dark part of the road at night and the driver did not have a torch. Was all a but concerning. 😃

I have had the pleasure of ROK-GLT before.
I drove from RK to GLA (ICAO designators) in the early 70s, not courtesy of TAA, as it was then (and should be now), but down to me, as the RK-BN flight was full, and lo and behold Derek Nimmo and retinue were waiting for the same flight at Gladstone.
I wonder if any of you has ever heard of Nimmo, or what our airlines used to do.

Yes - some of us are that old - or as my kids used to say, "Yes Dad and when the world was in black and white and dinosaurs roamed the planet"
But I did have to give my seat up to Phyllis Diller on a Mickey Mouse flight (MMA/AWA/Ansett WA) at Karratha when flying back to Perth in the 80's

I was put in a taxi once from ARM to GLI. This probably ended up quicker than SYD-TMW-IVR-GLI. IIRC I still claimed ORC for status credits, a flex fare from MEL with three sectors was quite lucrative.

Qantas were actually partners in the Speedrail project to build high speed rail between Sydney and Canberra that almost got off the ground in 1998. So we might have had QF Rail services!

I hope you offered to help him change the tyre...

I did a SYD to CBR by bus 2 years back. A Boeing 717 broke and flights to HBA, via MEL, were in disarray. I got a flight on JQ to HBA to confirm why I dislike them. Tried to circumvent the JQ from HBA to MEL by going via SYD but that had a broken Dash 8 so did a bus. Got the original routing points and SC but had to ask for them. The only issue was the bus was waiting as we were supposed to board so QF knew long in advance but did not announce the change
