Qantas boosts international capacity, wet lease Finnair aircraft

And myself and my colleagues all agreed the isles throughout the whole plane were very narrow. Even walking through business class to disembark we actually angled ourselves slightly so our shoulders wouldn't touch both sides of the business seats
At most 10 minutes of the entire flight time spent along the aisles (boarding/disembarking and on the way to/from lavatory)

This was a work trip so was booked through the corporate booking platform Navan
Perhaps the issue is with your corporate travel arranger and not Qantas
Interesting. My corporate provider is not Navan, but still very obviously indicates QF 291 (Operated by /FINNAIR FOR QANTAS), twice when selecting and twice again when confirming.
I assume the information comes from the GDS because it's the same way the tool shows the operating carrier for codeshare flights.

Blame the previous Irish MD for his fleet mis-management- amongst all his other issues that have destroyed the airline and the brand.
If you're flying to Singapore then they have an infinitely better carrier....
This doesn’t look like a QF issue to me regardless of the blinkers some may have towards the previous CEO

I just flew the Sydney to Singapore QF291 flight and I was really disappointed with it.

  1. No where on Navan did it state the flight was a "non Qantas plane/service" however I've seen screenshots of the Qantas booking system where it does state it's a FinAir operated flight
  2. No where in the Qantas booking management page or boarding ticket did it state it was a FinAir flight
I would have just thought in some of the communication from Qantas it would have mentioned it was a FinAir flight.

Should have gone to Specsavers

Especially since its spelt "Finnair" in 2 meter high letters down the side of the aircraft!!

Regards,

BD

I've just looked at my original ticket confirmation from Navan and Qantas and no where does it state Finnair. Also just did a search on Navan for the same QF0291 flight and it also doesn't show Finnar anywhere.

Bizarre that Finnair vis not mentioned anywhere on that booking. You can see from the small photos that they are AY seats but many may not spot that detail
Not to mention whY+ on an A330 is a bit of a giveaway for anyone whose flown on any QF A330.

To be fair, usually if you're an average flyer (or even business flyer) that's not tuned in, that's not something that would tip you off. Qantas has premium economy on SYD to SIN in QF1.

In fact, to notice what an a330 is means you already know a bit more about planes.

The average flyer isn’t on AFF either.

There’s many threads and discussion here on QF temporarily wet leasing AY A330s before incorporating those same aircraft into the QF fleet - replete with AY hard product. I can’t comment on the whY seats but I believe the PE is very good (obviously better than QF’s A330 PE) and I don’t get the comment that the J seats were too close (aisle width) - the flight I did in J re entry was not out of the ordinary. Far from it with a 1:2:1 config when some A330s have 2:2:2 if not a squeezy 2:3:2 config!

This is news to me and quite frankly unacceptable

Back on topic though, this is clearly an issue with Navan bookings system not showing the operating carrier. I'd never heard of them and the places I've worked have always used FCM but a quick google shows that it clearly an interface they've designed to be slick and more user appealing but this comes at the cost of important info like operating carrier.

I guess being more a Navan issue this probably applies to other Qantas and even Virgin flights across Australia (QF operated by Alliance, VA operated by Alliance or newly VA operated by Link).

Could it be that Navan doesn't display the operating carrier when using the mobile phone / app view? Is there an email or pdf or desktop browser version of these pages and confirmations?

original ticket confirmation from Navan and Qantas
You wouldn't have a ticket confirmation from Qantas if you booked through a TA (Navan).

Ok that was too easy... I just signed myself up to Navan...

Here is how a desktop search looks for me:

When you click on Economy Saver on the QF291: (EDIT: As noted by dairyfloss below it does mention Finnair in the description - I totally missed this on first read).

Then when selecting a that fare and even clicking more details:

Screenshot 2024-01-19 at 10.36.29 pm.png

Now it's clearly a Navan issue as not once do they show operating carrier.

That being said I'm impressed that within seconds I could sign up my own domains email and create an account.

With the search showing multiple airlines and clear cancellation policies:Screenshot 2024-01-19 at 10.38.59 pm.png

End of the day they're just another cooperate online TA, and one is clearly paying for the privilege $697 direct via QF who is just as clear with fees and operating carrier but obviously no ability to compare fares.

Lol nice pick up, but it clearly is burried by the OTA(Navan)

Can't really blame QF though for that imo.

Our corporate OTA portal is equally cr*p as the OP’s in displaying information, but the operating carrier is always there (e.g. National Jet for QF, Skywest for AA, Alliance for VA, Finnair for QF etc etc) but in ant sized writing 😉 .

Slight difference here is it's not quite a Finair flight. It does not operate with an AY flight number. It would be incorrect to list it as operated by Finnair.

It should be operated by Finnair for Qantas, referring to the wet lease and that it is primarily a QF flight. Although it does have an AY number, that is the codeshare, not the QF number.

In any case it's in the GDS correctly so all complaints should be forwarded to your respective booking systems.
