Qantas Booking January 2015

Hi all

I am a novice in the land of Qantas Frequent Flyer. However, thanks to credit card and the occasional business trip I have accumulated enough points for a family trip. I have Bronze status.

We are planning to travel to Vietnam and Hong Kong in January 2015. I have looked on the Qantas site for Classic and Award flights but my searches are nil.

Am I too early? Is it best to use Qantas or try an alternative airline partner?

Any tips, advice or opinions greatly appreciated.

I am departing from Sydney - there are four of us and I have about 400,000 points. We are OK with travelling at the back of the plane!

Ring up and see if there is anything on Malaysian Airlines - they don't come up online and had very good availability for the end of School holidays in Oct 2014 (there are 6 of us coming home Paris to KL to BNE) when I booked less then a fortnight ago.

You can ring to check availability and then simply not book... heading back online to do so, unless online has no availability for what you're after, then you need to pay the assistance fee...

Thanks all - I rang Qantas and many January flights are still to be released. Advice was to call back in 2 weeks.
