I just wanted to share an experience and a warning about Qantas Multicity bookings. I'm looking at flight to the US, DCA, so there are a few legs to complete. On the outbound there are sale economy fares, and on the return there are no sale fares, only Saver.
A straight return booking will only give me the second flight of the day connecting in SYD to a flight to LAX. But I can get a Saver fare for the return legs, and this is important because the Saver is upgradable with points.
If I use multicity to get the first flight of the day, with all other flight being exactly the same. All of the fares are now classed as Sale fares - But the dollar cost is exactly the same to the cent. There is no price difference using multi city and selecting the second flight of the day, the advantage of the first flight is an extra hour of first lounge time.
That's a bit of a rip off being put onto non-upgradeable fares for the same dollar cost.
