This is one of the most biased, nonews articles I have ever read, so much for the NT lifestyle being laid back:

http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2011/12/03/275991_ntnews.html

Flight QF793 was delayed until 8am today after the plane's engine packed it in.

One passenger, Scott Salisbury, said: "There are a lot of pissed-off people in this airport."

He said he was sick of "lame excuses about safety first" and believed the maintenance issue was a roll-on problem from last month's heavy industrial action.

Yeah let's forget about safety and take off our next of kin can then sue later if necessary!

I remember once being in Syd near the curfew and QF was having problems with the main door and some passengers started saying lets go and work on the door in the air!!!!

Mick from Gosnells I also use QF792/793 to FIFO and I am 2 from 20 ontime departures the 2 delays were from people failing to board the aircraft. I have had more delays with the charter flights to site because of broken aircraft than with Qantas, Virgin or Jetstar. If Mr Salisbury is unhappy to fly maybe he should look at moving to the Territory.Dazz

I note the above response to the article in the 'your say' section.

What would they rather? The problem be discovered in the sky?

I would say that not letting the aircraft leave is a perfect example of how Qantas DOES put safety first! It's ironic that people think that a plane not leaving is a safety issue!

It's not about whether QANTAS did the right thing. Newspapers will print anything and this guy knows it. He was upset because he didn't get what he wanted and used the paper to attack. The problem is people still buy newspapers for the "NEWS".

Had family on that flight on Friday (then Saturday morning).

Annoying, yes. Accommodation booked and a wedding to go to today, Sunday.

The end of the world? No.

I have seen some headlines from the NTNews (whether they are real is another issue), that would make me seriously even waste the energy looking at the front cover, let alone anything from page 2 onwards.

I see that it's a news limited publication. That explains everything.

I think you've got that round the wrong. Mr salisbury was saying that safety first is a lame excuse for delaying the flight, as I read it.

I wonder what real LAME's think about the 'lame' excuse. I can't believe the pax seriously thinks the not letting the flight depart is some how attributed to what happened a month ago.

Reminds me of that ABC journo looking at the departure screen at BNE Domestic & zooming in on a flight was delayed "due to crewing requirements" asked "is that a knock on effect of the strike"?

I am glad that safety is always put first with Qantas.

I have been on a flight that had an issue and we had to turn around.

Qantas did as much as they could for us.

I felt sorry for an entire family getting the late flight to either HKG or SIN and missed it but Qantas put them on one of there planes instead the next morning and put them up at BNE.

Qantas could not have offered us much more.

I saw one of the FA's give one of the paxs the phone and said you can use our phone to ring your brother who was picking her up. He couldn't get her that night from the airport as he had to start work early in the morning as we didn't get in until nearly 1am she was given a cab voucher and it was over a 1 hour drive to where she was staying.

What i didn't like about it the bar was closed just soft drink and water and not in huge qty's and no coffee's.

Um, no I mean exactly what I wrote and I don't have anything around the wrong way. They said safety first is an excuse. I'm saying it's actually a good reason for not letting a plane go. By not letting a plane go it does mean they are putting safety first.

Actually you said the story is an example of how qantas puts safety first. The person quoted in the story was questioning the need to delay the flight for safety, i.e. there was no safety issue in their view. They weren't saying qantas is not safety, because as quoted they believe there was no safety issue. They questioned the fundamental basis of your example, they didn't say it was unsafe to delay the aircraft.

Clearly that person is deluded, but saying it is an example of safety first doesn't actually address their delusional view.

NT News will always run weird stories.

I remember there was a world news event and NT News ran a story on someone caught doing self pleasure while speeding and driving drunk and the headline was a shocker...

Wait, NT news actually has real stories in it? I swear I saw a disclaimer at the bottom of the front page which says: "This publication is fictional and for entertainment purposes only. Any similarities between the people and events describe here in and any real person and events are entirely coincidental and unintentional."

On a more serious note, "HOLD THE PRESSES, A QANTAS PLANE HAS BEEN DELAYED, THIS IS FRONT PAGE NEWS PEOPLE".
If I got a write up about every flight which didn't go quite according to plan I could probably fill a book.
