Qantas squeezes 100 more seats on to A380s | The Courier-Mail

QANTAS says passenger comfort will not be compromised by its profit recovery plan to increase passenger numbers on its long-haul A380 super jumbos to 550 people.

The airline will add 100 extra seats to 12 of its airborne mammoths. It will also lift passenger numbers on nine Boeing 747s, from 305 to 359, ending the golden era of luxury air travel.

Yet another NoNews article that has no basis in fact. Removing F seats and implementing more J seats doesn't really affect the punters in Y. Removing J seats and implementing more Y+ seats again doesn't affect punters in Y.

Yes, just becasue there's more seats on the plane, doesn't mean the seats are closer together.

Got to wonder if someone's lost their bonus considering the whole refit is costing $400 million.

For my money I wish they had a lot moe Y+ and cut the tax on this seating from 100% down to say 50%. They would still get extra revenue - 50% over Y but only about 30% extra space taken up.

I suppose their main worry is if Y+ was too cheap a lot f J PAX would downgrade.

For my money I wish they had a lot moe Y+ and cut the tax on this seating from 100% down to say 50%. They would still get extra revenue - 50% over Y but only about 30% extra space taken up.

Y+ is not always 100% or even 50% more than economy. I recently booked an R class fare that was $22 more than the B class fare I would otherwise have purchased. The only additional restriction over the B fare is a $60 change fee vs no change fee for B fare. Having in-seat power for an 8 hour flight was easy justification for $22 extra spend.

Yes, there were some cheaper economy fares available, but as it was booked less than 24 hours before departure, K was the only other option and it has a $250 change penalty for a saving of less than $200. So one change and there is no benefit. And in 11 flights to HK in the last 7 months, almost all have needed at least one flight change either outbound or for the return. So far only had to move the return date once, so $60+22 more than B is still good value for Y+ flights.

R class seems to have much better availability than T class. And I have found the R class fares are very good value earning for AAdvantage miles .

I read that article in the Courier Mail last week and could not understand why they needed to report it that way.

Sure there will be more passengers on the QF A380's and 747's but that is due to removing first class seats and not a re-fit of the economy cabin.

Yes the extra pax get Y or Y+ service instead of F :shock::shock:.
