hello all,

just a quick question, I have an award booking with Qantas for 2 pax, now I want to cancel the 2nd pax's ticket, called Qantas and told them what I wanted and they told me they will split the bookings and cancel the 2nd pax ticket....

however this morning under my bookings seciton I can see the booking has been split, but the 2nd pax ticket looks like still valid.

should I

1. wait and see
2. call them and ask why (however I don't want to wait as the queue is usually 1/2 hrs, since I don't fly with them often enough)
3. just go online and click cancel on the 2nd pax's booking ?

any implications in terms of fees and penalties etc ?

thx..

They usually add in a dummy flight between two pseudo city codes for a future date which will keep the pnr live & thereby easy to retrieve when you go to rebook your new flights.

This may be why you are still seeing the pnr in 'my bookings'. It doesn't hurt to ring them to double check.

Same thing happened to me. I cancelled a ticket but it stayed in my bookings page for days after. I rang back and they assured me that it was cancelled on the first day.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Just check that half the "taxes" have been refunded to your CC, and the points as well (minus the 5000 for cancelling), and then let Qantas worry about the vagaries of their booking system. The same thing happened to me recently when I turned 1 of 4 Award flights to NZ into a paid flight.

In some cases, you can see the split booking for a couple of days while the refund is being processed internally.

However if you're concerned, please private message me the booking reference number and I can confirm the details for you.
