Qantas Aus/NZ double status extra points. Booking question?

Advice please. Booking for my husband and I. Aust to NZ. We have seperate FF accounts. Have registered online for each account. To take advantage of offer do we have to book separately or if I just make one booking with the two freq flyer numbers will we both be credited. Any help appreciated...currently on hold for over hour and on second scotch and coke. The rest of the bottle is looking very attractive.

If both FF members have registered, so long as you include both FF numbers in the booking, you will both get the DSC

I am not 100% sure about the 5000 points binus though. This was a bit discussed in another dedicated thread to this offer. The wording makes it sounds like the 5000 is per booking, but it might be per flight per passengers.

Thanks for prompt reply. Is there drawbacks with separate bookings? Probably a naive question or is it recommended to just do one booking.

If both of you have registered a single booking should be fine as the QFF numbers are unique. However this offer is slightly different as there is both SCs and points in the mix I cannot recalling seeing this before. You could make 2 seperate bookings and then have them linked so QF will treat as one, you will still have 2 seperate PNRs and if one of you has better status both will be treated as the higher status option e.g. seating lounge access. If one has better status than the other you may have have to call QF to get this done as an example I can pick any seat on a QF flight at the time of booking, my +1 is WP but cannot get R4/5 or R1 (dom at the time of booking) linking solves this problem. On Int flights I have not noticed a seating restriction difference between WP and P1.

Richard as I was writing my above response I had included some of the challenges that maybe faced but then decided to remove these. At times I forget that the way I travel, either solo or with Mrs and MissM is most likely different to greater majority, I also take my status as the norm. Over the years we (mrsM and I) now agree if things change we will just meet at some place, airport or hotel. Whenever I make bookings for Mrs and MissM it is though my account so they get treated the same as I would.

If the bookings are on 2 separate PNRs and linked, if one pax has higher status the seating privileges won't be extended to the other so they wouldn't be able to seat select from the status zones. You have to be on the same PNR for this to work. You also won't see any reference to the other pax on MMB etc.

I'm not sure what the benefits are of having the bookings linked other than perhaps slightly more streamlined acceptance at the airport (i.e. kiosks allowing you to check-in all linked pax at once, the check in agent being able to easily seat you together etc) and maybe during irrops. But the pre-airport experience, I've found it doesn't make a difference.

Your experience differs from mine, over the past years I have regularly travelled on a separate PNR to my +1 and daughter and after linking the bookings have had no issues in getting them seated in R1 or 4 at the time of booking. In fact we have a booking to PER (separate PNRs) in a few weeks time and their seating is 1D and 1F I am 1C. I have also travelled with work colleagues and linked their booking to mine and also put them in R4 with myself and on a couple of occasions they have also received op-ups in line with mine. The other reason I have linked work colleagues PNR both domestic and international is if we do run into issues (irrops) their booking are managed by SST/VIP in line with mine.

I did not think I suggested you could see the other pax PNR via MMB from the other account, if booking with my points I can see the other pax bookings and details in my account. If using cash I just log into their account to get the details. Once booking are linked if you have to call QF the agents can see the all the bookings and manage as one.

I'm a WP and I have found that if Mr Seat 0A (SG) and I travel together but on separate PNRs, he cannot access seating near me through MMB on the web site, and I can't do it for him either. However, it is easily done by phone - they link the bookings, and then allocate us seats together for the whole journey, including return. This works just fine unless something changes, but even that has been sorted out including overseas by phoning. This may be less attractive now given the comments about long wait times for phone service for WPs. As we are actually travelling together, he gets priority check in etc etc etc with me.

The main reason we travel on separate PNRs sometimes is if I am travelling for work and he decides to accompany me - previously he has done that both domestically and internationally pre-COVID. It doesn't look good to the client or the tax man if we are both on the same PNR.

If I purchased a Saver Y fare and met all the conditions of the double status promo, down the track when they have the good $500 J sale fares, could I upgrade it, pay fare difference and still earn the double status credits?

Yes, it all works off the PNR created date. In previous DSC offers I had cheap domestic tickets and changed then into J fares both domestic and international. DSCs always posted.

The FAQ for this offer suggests that 'Book Now, Pay Later’ should be available... but I've been unable to find options for this for the forward dated (Oct/Jan/Apr) I've searched.

Are there any tips/tricks for unlocking this?
