I don't think that "shall" is correct grammar in that context.

Perhaps "are" or "will" would be more appropriate.

I'm WP flying SYD-AKL-PPT on a QF ticket in Y.

Was it determined whether I'll have lounge access in AKL?

Out of curiosity, is there anything in the QF app about relaxing in the lounge? eg here’s an example from one of my future trips.



I have other trips where there’s no QF lounge eg CGK and SCL and it is blank but there is lounge access.

If it says QF lounge in AKL, that ought to be sufficient!

I wrote to QF about access when travelling SYD-AKL-PPT on QF marketed flight as QF WP and received the following response:

As a Qantas Platinum Frequent Flyer, you are entitled to access eligible Qantas International Business Lounges when travelling on a Qantas (QF) flight number. Qantas advises that Platinum members may access Qantas International Lounges when their ticket contains a Qantas flight number, regardless of whether the flight is operated by a partner airline.

Based on the information provided, your Auckland–Papeete sector is booked with a Qantas flight number (QF) and operated by Air Tahiti Nui. Therefore, provided your boarding pass reflects the Qantas flight number, you should be eligible for lounge access in Auckland under your Platinum Frequent Flyer benefits.

We recommend presenting your boarding pass and Qantas Frequent Flyer membership details upon arrival at the lounge. We wish you an enjoyable trip and thank you for your continued loyalty as a Platinum Frequent Flyer.

So I was initially denied entry by lounge staff who advised me that the rules had recently been changed and that travelling on a TN operated flight does not grant access even if booked on a QF flight number. I asked when the rules had been changed she said earlier this year.

I then pulled out the above email from QF and she quickly glanced at it but insisted I still did not have access. Upon standing my ground she offered for the manager to come out and discuss it with me which I accepted. They read the email together and made quips of the words 'may' and 'should', basically implying that they had discretion whether to grant me entry or not based on the email from Qantas.

I was reluctantly granted entry after being asked to forward them the email from QF.

Total insanity. QF elite member, at a QF lounge and on a QF-coded flight - the mind boggles.

This is why I feel it is my absolute duty to always do a FULL and thorough lounge trek through HKG and never fail to stop by our good friends at QR when in Singapore... (let QF get billed for as much as possible...)

Haha absolutely I always schedule a good extra few hours in HKG and SIN in particular for a good lounge crawl, make sure I stop in to visit them all!

I wanted this in writing to avoid any issues and it took no less than two weeks and seven emails for QFF team/Loyalty to answer the specific questions I had. The response is below.

1. Have access to the Platinum Dining Section in the AKL Lounge departing another OneWorld carrier as OneWorld Emerald?

If your AA Frequent flyer account number, which has Oneworld Emerald membership, is linked to your flight by the time you enter AKL Qantas lounge, you can access the Platinum Dining Section at Auckland International Lounge as long as you are travelling on a Oneworld flight.

Trying to get an answer to this on the phone was infinitely more frustrating.

WP travelling QR. The lounge agent noted I was Platinum/OW Emerald and gave me a Platinum Dining invite.

Salt n pepper calamari way over cooled unfortunately.
Whilst there a young lady was escorted to the dining area. Not sure if P1, CL or VIP.

QR flight not displayed on the departures monitor. QF,JQ,EK,MH,FJ flights were.

My exact experience but the Squid was better than SYD F Lounge and the Tiramisu was incredible.

Status run on last weekend. Melbourne squid was ok. SIN first lounge squid at the end of May was a disaster, it was like they had fried a whole squid, as in one piece, and served it with the oil pooled in the recesses. disgusting!

The poached snapper and rice in Melbourne first lounge was pretty amazing. As well the affogato.


Auckland dining area breakfast was great. Did eggs bene, but next time will be the avocado toast with an added poached egg.

Maybe none of the above, when I was there a few months ago they escorted me there (as a WP) after I said that I hadn't been in since the renos.

It could be! Passed through there on Saturday and as I was being given the Platinum Dining card, she asked if I was familiar with the new lounge and seemed ready to direct me there.
