Qantas App Enhancements

Walk in and at the front desk just say I've just arrived on the flight from xx_X and they say welcome. My guess is scanning in on arrivals doesn't work perhaps and it's jut the honour system? No idea.

I only do it if I need to grab a coffee or the trans-con Y meal has been inedible and I want to grab some pizza or piece of fruit.

But I assume you flashed your card at least?

Otherwise anyone could do that.

There was a recent update of the Qantas app that automatically adds your BP to the device's Wallet app (at least on iOS) when doing OLCI through the app. On the rare occasions it has disappeared from the app it has been a reliable fallback, or just scanning the digital membership card.

Edit: Was introduced 7 months ago for iOS 26 users... unsure if they've done the same thing for Android?

No. I don't carry a card.

I always have my boarding pass on my phone ready to show, my point is they've never asked to see it.

Do they know you?

Seems like a major breach of protocol to just let people in without at least verifying their FF status.

Unsure. I mean they might recognise me but they've not given any indication that the remember me from previous visits.

This morning in Canberra trying to use card to scan in, was told that the scanner doesn't scan the card only boarding pass. Not sure that's exactly accurate but quicker to pull out the BP than make an issue at 0500.

When was the last time you scanned your card at the gate? I haven’t for years (back when we had totem poles ie a very long time ago).

I almost asked earlier if the machines at the gate still have the ability to print the BP?

That’s wild. And you say this happens every time?

So anybody can just stroll in and make a story about arriving on a flight?

I’ve used it in the last 12 months.

Havent scanned my QFF card at the gate for a very long time now.
If fact, as the QPay now does not have the barcode, I never take that card out.
Just use the QFF app.
I think its all smartphone now, or some pax will still have the airport issued papery card BP, or home printed OLCI copy which was printed at home.
I now have roaming on my phone, so on my NZ trips, as soon as check in opens, I do OLCI.
Just have to scan smartphone at gate in AKL, but always go by the machines downstairs to do my passport entry first, at the machines, it asks me if I want to print BP, I press no, the phone one has always kept the BP (change my phone to Volte, and latest NFC).

🤷‍♂️ I can only comment on my personal experiences. I reckon I've used the PER lounge on arrival about 5 times in the last two years. I literally have my phone ready with the boarding pass ready to show, but they've never wanted to see it.

That is kinda weird. For as long as I can remember the PER QPs teams have been the strictest in the country.

Guaranteed next time I try enter on arrival I'll be examined more closely than one is going through an Indian airport security check lol

I wonder if QFF ever thought to 'gamify' the app experience whereby, for example, you view a map with your flown routes, upcoming trips, cities visited, airports unlocked, milestones, sectors, countries, lifetime miles, aircraft types flown, specific challenges, etc.?

Has any airline already implemented something similar, or is there a reason the idea hasn't gained traction yet in today's climate?

It seems like a missed opportunity, from a marketing perspective. Airlines already have all the data, and many travellers enjoy tracking their travel history through third-party apps such as FlightMemory, OpenFlights, FlightRadar24, or Logmyflight.

If it's anything like the end of year summary, it'll just say your most visited destination is your home port 🤣
