Qantas apologises to frequent flyers with status extensions, lounge passes, points & more reward seats

I'd have happily taken an extension in lieu of the 30K points. Would have been great if QF gave us the option to choose what we want - one year extension or 50k points (30k seems a bit less as an "in lieu" for one year's worth of WP)
My husband is WP and he got 15000 points.

What are they not addressing?

The woeful call centre and website?

Is 15v30K based on past/future travel history perhaps?

See @Princess Fiona 's post above. In summary - if you are eligible for a newly announced extension, you get 15k. If you aren't eligible or can't benefit from the extension, you get 30k.

While Qantas can open up a few award seats, I'm finding the number of points in J required has near doubled for int. long haul, I think I'll take my business elsewhere after 30 years.

Are you looking at Classic Awards or Points Plus Pay? The tables haven't changed since the last rejig in 2019 when the new partner award pricing was introduced.

So they are giving away another free status extension. My status run to NZ will now be for nothing. At least I only purchased one trip. I hope those who purchased multiple trips are feeling ok.

You can still upgrade to a higher tier.

Seats on QF are cheaper than on other OneWorld airlines. So getting seats on QF marketed and operated flights would cost less points than say seats on AA and BA.

The increased number of points is frustrating when you've saved over a long time for a classic reward only to find the goal posts have moved.

I've read one report that says everyone gets a status extension, another that says Silver and above get an extension. I'm Gold and my email had no reference to an extension. My hubby is platinum and his included a 12 month extension. I'm confused!

This isn't new though, and the partner tables are certainly not double the QF amount. Goal posts haven't moved since Sep 2019:

If you have already flown enough this membership year to level up your status level or retain status then you don't get an extension (at least not at this stage). You get your status till the end of the following membership year as normal.

So presumably you've flown enough to level up to Gold or retain it already, but your husband has not flown enough to retain Platinum at this point.

I do remember that. I'm surprised they set it at such a low value. 120K for Platinum is one credit card sign up bonus (eg ANZ are offering 160K points for $200), effectively valuing Platinum at about $150. I wonder if they will keep doing that when things return to normal. I'd happily pay $150 a year for those years I don't retain Platinum through flying. Also way cheaper than most status runs. Worth it for the First Lounge access and ability to request release of classic rewards, not to mention the ability to occasionally get HBA call centre.
Absolutely; great value! I'd do it every year if I could... but I think they did say it was a 'one time' extension. Not sure if we got to see evidence of that holding true or not. I had enough in the pipeline not to need it in my case. Also I believe you needed to be at a certain threshold for them to offer it, so not like sitting back on LT status or anything. I expect it will come back at some stage once the dust has settled on 2020-2022 happenings.

I think this could be plausible. 15,000 points here and I have a 30 June expiry. I haven’t yet re-qualified in my own right, as it’s only been a month and a bit into my new membership year.

I do however have enough forward bookings over the next 8 weeks to re-qualify. But still only eligible for the 15,000 points.
Me too, I’ll be over 4.5K by October and won’t use it.
Meh it is what it is.
No matter what they offer some will get it good and some will be disadvantaged.

In my case I could just accept the comp, change where I credit the next trips to and spend the rest of my membership year exploring other opportunities and FF schemes 🤔😂

What are they not addressing?
The question is what substantive failings (well ventilated in many other threads on this site) are they actually addressing other than saying sorry and providing a few "gifts" as compensation ?

How laughable is the 12pm award release schedule, when it's been impossible to log on to the website for at least the last 3 hours...

Edit: Before someone kicks up a fuss, that's AEST!!!

My thoughts exactly. If Qantas was trying to prove that they're taking the problems that it just apologised for seriously, this is not the way to do it!

(The website issues are being discussed here: Qantas website down?)
