Has anyone received their 110k bonus points before spending the required $3k?

Seemed to happen to me today as I have only spent ~$2.8k but can see the 110k points posted in my Amex account. Spoke to AMEX live chat asking why this occurred and it appears they have a "goodwill" credit if you have spent close to the $3k. They have raised a case so hopefully can reverse the 110k points and only credit once I've spent the $3k (reason as I have deliberately not spent the $3k as I have already qualified for Points Club + and wanted the points credited in Jan 2022 so they count in my next years numbers)

I haven't done the maths but ours credited in the second statement month, around the time of hitting 3k spend.
I've generally found amex is pretty accurate in this area, moreso than most other banks.
Understand the desire to delay it for the PC+ reason though and this is a good warning for future years.

No, but they seem to batch process them. I received it part way through my statement month — after hitting $3K, but before my statement period end.

Thanks for your insights exceladdict & levelnine.

The only other reason I can think of points being credited before meeting the $3k minimum spend is because the $450 annual fee is included in this number. Will see if I get the $200 credit in the coming days.

One of those quirky situations where Amex think they are helping you when, in fact, they aren't. Hope you get a positive resolution.

Looks like Amex does include the $450 annual fee in the minimum spend requirement as chatting to another agent has my spend at ~$3.3k. I also received the $200 welcome credit overnight.

The agent also suggested to remove/unlink my Qantas account so that the points won’t post and relink once I’m ready for the points to be credited

I want to close my card before my $450 annual fee is incurred. I still have a $450 Qantas AMEX travel portal credit which I have no used as yet.

I understand if I close my card without using the travel portal credit, that credit will disappear.

As I have nothing to use the credit on in the interim, I'm wondering what happens if I book flights using the credit, close the card and then cancel the flights - would I receive a standard Qantas flight credit?

No, you would forfeit the travel credit as it's non refundable. Even in the case Qantas cancels the flight, Amex will reinstate the TC on your Amex account, so if the card is closed I assume you will lose the value then too.

You could try to change the booking instead of cancelling, Amex will charge a small fee for this.

Thanks for the info, I figured as much.
What if I were to make a booking then cancel the card? Would the booking remain in tact?

Yep it's perfectly fine to making a booking and cancel the card, the booking will remain valid. If Qantas changes/cancels your flight(s) you should be able to change the booking to an alternate date/flight without penalty, although you might get slugged fare difference - I'm not 100% sure on that one.

Hello everyone, quick question. My mate wants to get an AMEX card that has no annual fee, so he is planning to go with the Essential Credit Card.

I have got a AMEX Qantas Ultimate and I sent him a referral link. But he is not able to select any cards other than the Qantas branded cards. Is this correct?

I thought, I'd be able to refer a new customer to pick up any AMEX product?

I believe you can only refer to the same genre of card i.e. qantas to qantas.
