Qantas A380 reliability issues creeping up again?

I'm on QF 93 MEL- LAX monday week and its also a 380!

I wonder if the Qantas head of international is across A380 cancellations. I would have thought he’d get told every time an A380 flight is cancelled. But who knows…

There's still a world of difference between knowing and caring...

I am hoping that should my MEL-LAX flight be cancelled or drastically delayed , and there are no easy alternate options on QF metal or AA, how hard would a Platinum flier have to push to get put onto a United flight ?
Any experience?

I am watching like a hawk for any J availability on AA for the day of or before my trip.

I would rather pay an extra night of accommodation in LAX than risk it with QF.

I share your sentiments - we are flying later on the arrival day to get to Fairbanks on a separate Alaskan ticket - 3 hour delay ok with the QF flight but things go pear shaped if it goes longer than that.

The majority of QF 789 will need to be inspected soon too, if found to require rectification will need 530 hrs of labour.

QF11 either takes off within an hour of the scheduled departure or is cancelled/delayed more than 12 hours.

A 20-30% chance of the later happening at this stage it seems.

Sounds almost certain it will affect the Qantas fleet. And 530 hours means probably 3 months at least in maintenance.

I fly QF11 mid june, I have an unprotected Alaska flight to SFO. Not as concerned about that as they have lots of em, and it wasnt that expensive anyways.

Ooof. Playing with fire there. Fingers crossed you pull that off !

Plus that is a LONG day to get over to the middle of Alaska.

Wait... QF do catering!? Is that what that stuff is supposed to be?

It is nice to get notice, but it’s due to an earlier delay. This would be related to water pumps breaking down on an A380. Friends of mine were already in Singapore (having arrived on a different QF flight) when they heard their onwards flight to London would be significantly delayed.

I’d a colleague on that flight who also found out whilst in Singapore (water issue). Was kept around the airport until quite late when someone (SATS) arranged accomodation for himself and his pregnant partner. I told him to ring and push to rebook on an alternate carrier and was offered AF leaving at 1100. Foolishly he declined and elected to stay on the delayed QF1 which was expected to depart at 1300… which was then subsequently cancelled.

Ended up flying on that nights QF1 which operated without water (suffice to say he didn’t use the bathroom). Even worse his rebooked connecting flight from LHR on BA was cancelled so had another 10 hours in London including a taxi to Gatwick. When it rains it pours, but my experience with IRROPS on Qantas is that unless you are proactive then the outcome is less than ideal. Thankfully I flew Qatar for this trip, as Qantas really doesn’t care about Melbourne beyond the US and NZ.

I am stunned that a flight is allowed to depart without water. A single toilet u/s is fine but no water on the whole aircraft?

I don’t know the specifics, maybe jb747 can weigh in as I didn’t think it were allowed either, but that’s what they were told by crew…
