Hello.

I am writing a story for a UK magazine about the 767 and I can't seem to find any definitive answer as to why QF choose the JT9D for their 762's and then the CF6 for their 763's?

Perhaps someone here has the knowledge

Thanks!

Chris.

Don't forget the ex-BA 76's had RB211's.

Its just a wild stab in the dark but when the B762's were delivered to QF in 1985 at the time QF would have been running B747-200s and also taking delivery of B747-300 series - not sure but if they are JT9D powered then that might explain it (from the point of views of spares and expertise).

I'd suggest that contacting QANTAS directly is likely to give a more definitive answer.

But, the JT9 was never offered at the same sort of power level as the CF6. As there are no JT9 equipped 767ERs, so it would appear that everyone came to the same conclusion. Having flown all three engine types, my preference is very much for the CF6.
