Going by the publsihed seat maps, VXQ and VXR are refurbed, but not VXB. Dunno why the discrepancy.

Some discussion on YSSY about this. I'll leave it in the list for now (given time taken) but we will see.
Can't identify any aircraft that have gone in as a replacement.
Not sure what is happening to VXU which went in well before VXB/VXQ

theqantassource.com supports that VXB has been refurbed.

QANTAS B737-800 VH-VXB Returns from Brisbane Maintenance.
September 24, 2015
QANTAS Boeing 737-838 VH-VXB, which has been under maintenance at Brisbane since 25th August, returned to service this morning operating QF836 Brisbane – Darwin. The aircraft has been reconfigured to 12J/162Y.

Although a negative second-hand experience on YSSY....

These seem to be taking a lot longer than expected.

I thought I heard somewhere that each aircraft should only take about a week (or there would be an a/c finished every week).

As a person who frequently does the Pth - Bne run, a refurbed 737 with an extra toilet will be most welcome.

VH-VXU back in service today as QF609, after operating test flight yesterday as QF6113.
To confirm whether it has actually been refurbed - the seat map has not been updated
2003 aircraft - so most likely a C-check as well

???
There is no extra toilet, still one at front, two at back - just the ones at the back are re-positioned and a little slimmer.

As stated by others, there is or may, also be a period of (scheduled) maintenance which adds time to the overall period each a/c is in the hanger. Still doesn't alter the fact that each REFURB is taking approx. 1week.

Flew VXR as QF494 on Weds night (7/10).

Immediately discernible on boarding by the black upholstered seats with the iPad straps fitted.

Visited the Y toilets, three observations:

1. It's a good job I have lost 20kg in the last 12 months, otherwise I would not have been able to walk square-on into the toilet.

2. The sink is now less than the size (and the shape) of a "kidney bowl". I struggled to ensure my blue trousers did not become soaked when washing my hands (try explaining that "splash" away when exiting!)

3. There is no noticeable impact of the extra row (and reduced leg room) back to Row 13 - the first of the overwing exit rows.

Regards,

BD

Certainly shouldn't be an impact as apart from the upholstery the other seats haven't been touched

Same goes with the bins - same, old-style, cramped, flip-open lids instead of the new, deep, swing-open bins.

Q-streaming hotspots (x2) were available.

Changing the bins would be substantially more work - and I guess that since project amber never proceeded beyond one aircraft, that it was decided that it wan't worth the effort.

No further change in seatmaps, so looking like VXU was just a C4 check.. surprising given how big a check it is.

Posters at YSSY have identified a few other possibilities.
Again given how long VZE has been there it may be a C check.
