Well this dropped in email last night so I’d be interested in views about how good or not this deal might be8BEA0F27-798C-4B54-B22B-6D7ECC3B3FBC.jpeg4CF3F6F9-6F56-4062-951D-FA94DE687D31.jpeg

Bad deal as you are paying 1.78 cents per point even with the 50% bonus points; I wouldn't pay more than 1 cent per point, especially in this covid environment.

In terms of buying points it really depends on what value you get out of them. A 1.7 cent per mile cost may not be a bad purchase if you're flying to say Lord Howe Island where tickets usually cost north of $1,000 return. In my case I bought some Air Canada érrorPlan points towards the middle of last year when they were having a fire sale, ultimately topping up with ~130,000 for $2,500 AUD which allowed me to book a return business class flight from Australia to North America for around $2800 AUD when you factor in the cost of buying the points + the usual taxes and fees one pays on top. This represents pretty good value considering business class flights to North America are typically $6000 or more easily. But buying points out of speculation that you may use them is not advised - points get devalued and program rules change somewhat often that what you think may be a good value only ends up netting you a toaster. Keep in mind too that Qantas isn't the only airline selling points with some airlines offering greater redemption value than Qantas, such as Alaskan's ridiculous J award redemption rate of 55,000 points from Australia to North America on Qantas.

Also never EVER feel pressured to buy those points. These bonus sales occur several times a year by the airlines. Aside from the current SUNTAN fares on offer on Qantas/Virgin/JetStar, there is rarely a reason to buy first ask questions later, especially in the environment we're in.

put your money in my pocket instead :) this is a terrible deal.
Reminds me of a certain hardware outfit who price the same product as follows,

say you want to buy a shovel and you go in and find there’s three evidently perfect shovels, One at $60 one at $38 and one at $15. What do you do? Well the cheap one must be cheap and maybe a little shovel badly Or break quickly. And the expensive one, who’d pay that amount for a shovel

most consumers buy the middle price one ....

what they don’t realise is that is the one with the most profit pushed inside it’s price.

The certain hardware outfit wins because it extracts the highest possible profit.
