i flew ACT to nth qld and back
on the way to nth qld had a stopover in brisbane for two nights
the ticketing was as followed
myself paid j ticket to brisbane
my 2.5 yr old points ticket to brisbane (side note to book these tickets, based on a previous post/question i had with regards to my husbands cheap & extra poins earning ways, i had to book online with the qantas gift voucher while simultaneously being on the phone to qantas to book our son on a reward ticket to make sure we both were on the same flight and seated together while avoiding my ticket fee and having our sons phone booking fee waived as we could not make such a booking online)
now i am gold, son is bronze
the reason for paying qantas for my ticket was status run.
brisbane to nth qld my ticket paid, son points

now we were seated in row 3, which as a gold or below (when i was just bronze) and travelling with an infant i am use to (do i get the last row because of the infant/young one, or because i'm only gold)

it was on the trip back that was a little different
we went nth qld to brisbane then an immediate flight on to ACT
why was it interesting, my son and i were in row 1 , a&c both legs
on this trip my sons qff was not used
and neither was mine.....why, because my husband booked using AA points
as i was the main passenger i could not enter my qff number on the AA booking site, didn't bother to give my sons qff number as what would be the point?
so row one, first time thats happaned travelling with the young one.
now i used my married name in the aa booking, first time i have done this for a flight, wohoo. (because qantas are so slow to change my qff card from my maiden name to my married name)

so as far as qantas might be concerend its the first time i flew with them ever.
also.....the cabin staff talked to me sssooo differently...it was as if they thought i was from the usa
asked if i knew how to buckle my son in, didn't offer me wine, talked slower to me, etc etc.

so i guess, was i in row one solely because i was on an AA ticket, and qantas system may automatically put us at the ffront for hospility reasons? or what coud the reason/s be?

has anyone else ever had totally different qantas expreinced flying on an AA ticket

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

It's a three row J-class cabin, there is not much difference between Row 1 and Row 3.
If there were higher tiered people on board, or those people had booked and selected seats earlier they may be blocked out.

I don't think QF treats an AA booking differently, albeit it is probably somewhat rare for someone with no FF number listed to be travelling J

I've gotten 1A as only a silver before. All I did was call up and ask for it and in I went.
Yes, high levels do typically get first bite at the better seats, but at T-80, everything becomes available for anyone.

Actually, I hate row 1 because it has:
- less legroom
- less overhead baggage space
- nowhere to hang my iPad at eye level

Row 3 has the advantage of privacy, but it's a long way down the back

So my usual pick is Row 2

Mr FM refuses to allow me to pick row 1 for domestic - he hates struggling with hand luggage and prefers to just put it under the seat in front. I have come around to his point of view, particularly when you see someone get on the plane late, sit in row 1 and then sigh dramatically because they can't fit their hand luggage in the over head locker and have to walk to around row 3 in order to fit it in......They can also run out of food options by row 3, so row 2 is our pick as well. International is different of course where 1A and K have become favoured seats on the 380.
