Thanks, serfty, for that information. I looked at the BOM website (located in Darwin) for the ash cloud updates, but did not understand how to "read" the graphs  It will certainly be welcoming good news if LAN will resume flights to Australia via NZ.

Thanks, all, for your helpful and reassuring replies. Yes, we will rock up on the scheduled day - this Friday, and see what will happen. Fingers crossed. Hope they won't put us in whY when we paid J - we need the points and the SC! :p Will keep the accommodation and car rental in place as booked.

Hey, I was actually looking for help on the exact same issue and I am also booked for LA801 this Friday AKL-SYD in J. I tried to get through to LAN call centre the other day to ask what would happen but ended up hanging up after on hold for 50 minutes and decided to take to forums.

Any event, fingers crossed on flight resumption!

And hello all, first post here.

Hi eosphoros

Welcome to the forum! Well, it looks like there will be 4 of us going on LA801 this Friday (hubby & me, you and missafternoondelight). At the moment, LAN website still shows that flight will be operating. So here's hoping for the best result. I will check LAN website tomorrow (Thursday) after 1pm to see if the flight is on its way to AKL. And, I will phone LAN as well (I have had to hold on for over an hour each time I phoned in the last few days), and will post what I find out here.

LAN informs that the ongoing movement of the ash cloud means it is able to resume its Santiago-Auckland-Sydney route as of today, July 6 and Sydney-Auckland-Santiago as of July 8.
