Q-Tags on hand luggage

Hi guys i'm new!

I am pretty new to flying a lot and ive been reading up here as much as I can and learning all I can.

My question is why does everyone seem to put their Q-Tags on their hand luggage?

Does it make lounge entry faster, or to get the attention of staff quicker, or is it just to show off to other travelers?

Anyone got any insight?

For me it was for convenience. When the cabin baggage weight limits were lower, on occasion I had to check in my trolley and having the tag already on it made it quick and simple. It also has my phone number on it so if I ever leave the trolley behind somewhere (that day will come... ), there's something to track me down.
I try to keep my tag discreet so no show-off points here. QF staff, at the other hand, expect you to flash your boarding pass to them when entering the security check or lounge as the tag is not a reliable indication of your current status or entitlements.

It also acts as a 'coaster' in real life: makes for a nice little holder for your takeaway coffee if you need to put it down for a minute.

show access rights to fast-tracks

There’s prob some ego in there as well.

I did discover overweight bags need check-in and that sticking the second Q-Tag inside the first Q-Tagged bag is a FAIL.

Some here suggest it’s an ego trip. Showing off status or some trying to fake it. Meh, I just put them on in case I need to check it in or really just so I know where it is. It’s also easier if challenged when using the priority screening queue esp in Adelaide where it makes a huge difference.

The funny thing is, once you get WP/P1 status it's not elusive (if you ever believed it was prior). Just like anything else that you didn't have, that you end up having later on.
I wonder how many people without status actually believe it is a showing off/ego thing and look up to it.
I know at least a few people who put WP/SG tags on their hand luggage despite being NB, with the intention of making it visible. Disgusting!

Personally I only keep it inside the front pocket and take it out on the rare occasion I have to check domestically.

I have seen QF and VA tags on domestic AA flights, so the ego has no limits!

Some people spend a lot of money on ebay for silver/gold platinum tags. That's a show off.

I don't understand the fuss about the Q tags being on hand luggage. There wasn't a similar discussion around the credit card-sized name tags that QF use to issue. The Q tags also have a place for your name and contact details, just like the older tags. The only difference is the Q tags are electronic. People assuming those who put Q tags on cabin baggage are on a power trip is off the mark, I think. Sure, some do it - just like with the older tags - but I just don't see why there's discussion.

• Sometimes I need to check my hand luggage in, saves attaching a paper tag.
• When I want to ID my bag, either someone has a very similar bag in the overhead bin or perhaps I'm on a Dash 8 service.
• Perhaps I've misplayed my bag at a hotel or office, people can contact me as my name and number are on the tag.
