So I stumbled across this on ebay and was more than a little surprised...

People selling their WP/SG/PS Q-Tag's (and some red ones that I know you can buy anyway).

What is the point? Why would you wan't someone else's WP card and tag? The only benefit I could see in it would be the priority boarding queue, but you can just go through there anyway... It's not like security cares about your status.

Who would spend hundreds of dollars buying someone else's tags?

The tags as such don't store information as such except for when its attached to a booking at the airport.
I guess the people selling them don't have a use for the tags so are happy to sell them for a small profit

Q-Tags are not linked to a person or an FF account, they are only linked to a booking when actually used to check in luggage.

The luggage tags for status levels do not entitle a person to any benefits.

Collectors will happily pay $$$$$ for your junk/unwanted items - just look at some of the stuff "antique" stores try to palm off. ;) I actually sold some of the old Gold tags (had a truckload of them) - somebody felt they were worth $25 for 2, and who am I to argue with their logic. :D

But those prices - who are they kidding????

PS: I actually had an E**** member send me a personal message questioning my "ethics" regarding the sale, as ". . . . it doesn't provide status to the owner if they haven't earned it through the airline!" Politely explained, that people do actually collect things and that "status" isn't the only reason behind wanting to own said tags. Sheesh!!!!

Wouldn't a Gold/Platinum etc tag theoretically give you priority when picking up your bag? (I know most baggage handlers don't care) Time is money!

Potentially - though i think they still put those bright orange priority things on check-in

I've got a gold one of my mum's at home. Next time I fly QF and check, I'll add it and see.

In theory no. Because the book details and hence passenger's eligibility for priority are linked to the tag when the bag is checked in. Colour of the tag is meaningless. Sure human nature suggests some baggage handlers will circumvent the computer based system. But most likely to delay the bag further based on my experience.
