Q Bag Tags unavailable for purchase?

Or maybe people realise that it's a good idea to have some sort of identification on their carry on bags. Instead of spending money on something they just use what the airline gave them for free. I fall into that category.

Sorry, a bit confused (or just dimwitted?) here but not sure what you mean by spending money on.. status identifucation? Do you mean when the coasters were for sale?
I find it so odd that so many people have such strong feelings on people like me doing this. How is it even remotely impacting on your life? 🤷‍♂️
Oh it doesn't have any impact at all. You're absolutely right.

I just think, and I mean no implied offence to anyone in particular, there are some personality types that need others to know they have the status and again seems to me to be more Golds. I just kind of find that a bit amusing when the sole purpose is to be "seen" as opposed to a potential functional reason. Perhaps a bit like a LV bag or something.

Again, QF seems to be now spinning this as a way for staff to better identify their status pax which is fine, though our BPs and manifests show this too so... seems of limited benefit - perhaps at premium security checks and priority lines for boarding (though groups will change this again)

Anyway yes, youre right zero impact on anyone else :)

Good point but why not best of both worlds? Send out a Q tag and a new tag.

The Q tag is convenient. I feel like it's part of the experience. I guess the new experience will be waiting in line to get a bag tag, watching people in front of you immediately fumble to attach their bag tags before moving away from the terminal and then lining up again at the bag drop to watch people fighting the scanner because the bag tag is all mangled because attaching those things is difficult.

It's been a long time since I've attached bag tags but it was never a pleasant experience. I never ever managed to attach one perfectly and after moving away from the terminal, I could never find a comfortable space to bend down and attach it. Always felt like I was in someone's way. I am terrified of going back to that! 😭

Not dimwitted, just a little poorly worded by me (can't you read my mind?! :) ). I mean if I don't use the free tag from QF I've got to go spend some money purchasing some form if generic bag tag to write my ID details on and attach to me bag.

Wasn't intended to pick on you. I've noticed a bunch of folks here have strong feelings on it.

How else am I going to make my manly bits seem bigger and more attractive to the ladies? ;) It's not like I can afford a Ferrari.

Amusing story. Going to use the J check-in queue at PER domestic, they had a staff member policing entrance to the line. Obviously I'm entitled to use it as a WP. However, I had my lowly SG Q tag on my bag. The lady saw this tag and said "go ahead, as a gold flyer". Really silly to be basing service on a tag, but hey, it's QF.

Aha. Yes, that indeed is a fair point (I was focusing on the starus part, not the id stuff)

All good :)

oh mate, the ladies know its the ynderstated ones with the biggest... status if you don't need to boast about it, you have enough to satisfy...

(aka it's usually the quiet ones)

Or you could just cut shower queues at LAX... I hear that is a sure signal to the gals..

Which links back to QFs comment about staff using the tags to identify the status types.

Think I'll attach P1 after all.. even when I fall back to LTG. Also perhaps trawl ebay for a black CL one. That will get me into their lounge...

If what I've read on ET's right, only P1's get the new brag tags automatically. Us P peasants only get them on on attainment or renewal. Qantas adding insult to injury with the row 4/extra leg room debacle. Might as well be Gold across a couple of alliances.

QF saying that the Q Bag tags are "redundant" because of in-app tracking is bizarre. As we all know the Q Bag tags were never a tracking device — all they ever did was act as a replacement for the paper based tags and in fact they work completely fine with the app based tracking when in use. App based tracking does not replace the functionality of the Q Bag tag in any way at all. So I'm confused as to why QF are stating this.
Absolutely agree with this and at least QF are (in tgeory) embrasing this.

While sure, I am sure many have used the coasters as intended, I often see MANY on carry ons (mostly Gold and Plat) that screams "look at moi" imo. I sometimes see them outside of travel situations too (like people in J PJ tops at woolies lol).

I doubt I will attach mine when it shows up (though the P1 one does look nice) as I have no "DYKWIA mode" or wish to stand out tbh.

But that's just me.
I have Q Bag tags on my carry on but only because sometimes I do check it and I really like being able to go straight to the bag drop when checking bags. I really like the look of the new tags they look really cool IMO - but I'll continue to use the Q Bag tags instead for as long as they'll keep the RFID functionality enabled making them functionally more useful for now. It's a shame they couldn't incorporate the tech into the new tags as it's a feature that I really like.

But I know what you mean... sometimes you see the coasters on backpacks and messenger bags etc and that is definitely using them as "brag tags" (I laughed at that term above).

I think it’s a combination of the facts that
  • RFID is outdated
  • People are more likely to notice the tags when they’re on backpacks and light carry-ons rather than big suitcases, and;
  • A few Australians are being brainwashed or are forgetting the prestige of the QF brand due to the unjust media campaign against the national carrier.

So no wonder Qantas have repurposed the bag tags from being a tracking device to a status symbol - not just your FF status but your social status as a premium travelling Australian.

QF is an iconic & prestige symbol of Australia and everyone should take pride in having those tags on their bags.

I know I've had one too many glasses of red when I had to read that four times before I came to the conclusion you were applying sarcasm.

Dear God, please tell me you were applying sarcasm.

Has anyone that has requested a bag tag recently speak to if they're back to roo logo only, or still clearing stock of the QF100 bag tags?

I had a tag sheared clean off a bag SYD-DFW recently, but don't love the QF100 tags. Too busy looking.

Can’t get any of the old or QF100 RFID tags anymore. Qantas have announced they have been discontinued. New tags being issued over the coming weeks.

I'll let you know if my replacement one ever turns up. Had one damaged. Requested one online in March. They emailed asking me to confirm my postal address which I did. a month later nothing so I emailed back. A few weeks later, roughly two weeks ago I get a call to apologise. They've had some glitch but as compensation they will express post me a tag which I'll receive in three to five days.

Roll on yesterday and still no tag. I call up. They get quite grumpy with me when I tell them it was going to be express posted. They emphatically tell me that's not a thing. After looking into my file they a rather apologetic as it's noted it would be express posted, but told that in error. Anyway, was told it was only put in the post two days ago.

I'm not quite annoyed at the amount of my time it's taken just to get a replacement tag. I said since I'm not getting the promised "express post compensation" what are they going to offer. Was told someone more senior would call me back soon. I said no problem, just not in the next 30 minutes as I'd be in a meeting. They agreed an hour would be good.

What do you know, twenty minutes later they call and I can't pick it up They leave a voicemail telling me they'd try again in 30 minutes. It's 25 hours later and I'm still waiting. QF are truly infuriating with the most basic stuff sometimes.

ET claims QF are sending the new style tags to P1's from next month(ie June) - seemingly no request needed.

No status (i.e. Red) new tags are already available to purchase via QF.

Here is a link to the Exec Traveller article.

Here is a link to the QF website where they say the old RFID tags are being discontinued.

Tbh, I like the new P1 tags. I just hope they send mine as of status this month as opposed to next month…

Requested WP tags about 6 weeks ago, got the plain roo (non 100 year anniversary) logos. But like others have said apparently they've stopped issuing them.
