you didn’t want to take a chance on the 19:35 to Canberra? (Weekends - think there is a slightly later one weekdays). I booked it using points and I figure if we miss it, I will just throw away the flights and book new ones the next day. It is almost two hours between the flights and I would never normally book that close together, but I figure if I am prepared to book new ones, it shouldn’t cause me any stress. :) I am not sure what Qantas does with two different tickets, as far as honouring late arrivals. We booked Syd-scl with money and Cbr-syd with points. Wasn’t planned like that, but Ms FM and husband were dithering about whether they could fly to Sydney the night before or not and I didn’t want to miss the good J fares, so just booked and sorted the rest out later. We are flying down the night before and staying at the Rydges, which is much more relaxed.

I was looking at the Hyatt in Santiago - tossing up between that and the Singular.
I think the last flight is 8.15pm which would be easy but....it’s a Dash 8 and MrLtL don’t do them and the earlier 717 is too early. :p

it is weekdays - unfortunately not on weekends 7:35 is the last one. Mr FM and Ms FM hate the dash 8s as well, but they will put up with them if they have to and like you I didn’t want to overnight in Sydney. They hate buses too, so.....

They take credit cards. Why not earn a point or two?
I know they do but there have been some reports of the machines not working so being safe in case we need cash. And, I hesitate to admit, we don’t have point earning cards, a hangover from years ago (and not likely to go to new cards just for the points/sign up bonuses).

Good grief. No points? Dame!

It is always safe - we tried to eftpos our visa payments in Zambia a few years ago and the machines weren’t working, so fortunately we had US$ with us. Although he scrutinised every note and rejected some large ones, so we ended up paying the entire fee with $1 bills that we had brought for tips.

I've been through SCL frequently over many years and never had an issue with paying by CC. But wherever I go, I always have a stash of USD for emergency use.

My lord it’s a long way! At present in the LATAM lounge at SCL waiting for the last of our flights for today. Been a few years since we did the flight SYD to SCL and it’s easy to forget just how far it really is.
That said the flight was pretty painless except for a delay at SYD when one passenger omitted to board and then they had to locate and offload his luggage which took a while. J lounge was a little less zoolike this morning which was a bonus. :) I won’t post much on the flights as there are lots of TRs including them and most people seem to have a good handle on the route.
Just waiting, waiting, waiting now and the body keeps screaming,”It’s way past your bedtime. Go to sleep:p

Just out of practice there Dame. Same distance as to Dubai.

So a few last comments on the flight.
1. FAs were all very good. Young male FA on QF came along our aisle and asked every one’s first name and what we were doing in Santiago/South America (and made suitable wow comments on everyone’s plans). He then ended up in J I think so didn’t get to put his new found information into practice, though as we left the flight in SCL he farewelled us by name. Pretty good memory skills.:)
2. Dinner was fine, breakfast inedible. They did not load enough meals either so I ended up with a fruit plate for breakfast as I didn’t want the (last) cooked one.The menu should say it all  (sorry the image is crooked)

3. As it was Halloween, a couple of the LAN FAs came through in masks and witches’ hats with lolly bags for the children - a really nice touch.
4. South America flights continued our experience of not being remotely on time :p
But here we are and I will post a few random photos of Montevideo and the hotel later.
