Purchasing Lounge membership

I always seem be be put into Elevate.
The other fare zone is always sold out, as mentioned Elevate does give a higher SC so its not that bad.
If you do buy the Lounge, you can just zap yourself in with the machine and don't have to keep going to the counter and paying $65 per entry.

There is an option to purchase lounge membership with 30,000 points on the VA site.. in case your points rich and cash sensitive.

My employer provides an opportunity to salary sacrifice the cost of lounge membership. If you’re travelling for work might be worth checking whether that’s an option to save you some $$?

Counting the number of people who now bring their kids into VA's the lounge, I am starting to see the light.
Some love them kids making a mess, dropping ladles, opening and closing soup lids without doing anything, lah lah lah, but they do scare me.
$300 is indeed a lot of beers and sandwiches.
Flying VA discJ would still give the "lounge" access, and also get the wider space on the plane.
Flying VA's X(Y) plus the lounge access, still means getting the chance of having a big huge arm rest hogging whale being plonked next to me... arm rest hogging, and what's the term, ah, yes, man spreading, of legs that is. Eeeyeech. That I don't like.
Will probably go the discJ class once my years up.

I'm self-employed so I guess it's tax deductible. But 30K points isn't that much when you've got 300K or so. Still not sure it's worth it but I do like to have some space and free breakfast before my flights. Then again it can be so crowded some mornings you might as well be at the gate.

Might be worthwhile considering the Amex Platinum Charge card. Massive annual fee of $1450 per year but has many, many benefits including unlimited access to Virgin lounges provided you have a Virgin boarding pass (any class/fare type).
I wouldn't get this card purely for the lounge benefit but if you are looking for a high end card and would utilise most/all of the benefits, it is well worth considering.
