Public Transport to our airports - what's cheapest?

Prior to 2000, there was that bus from Sydney CBD that went to the airport.
The 300 Circular quay to airport ran for decades but shut down after the Sydney Olympics. At one stage called the Airport Express.

Currently there are 2 buses 420 and 350
420 Burwood to Mascot via airport (int and dom)
350 Bondi Junction to SYD DOM (not Int).

Both stops at coward St then 200m walk to Mascot train station

The 420 also stops near Burwood station For those taking the Sydney train Northern line, this is a good option. For those taking the North Shore line or city then Mascot is the stop.

Buses replace trains Central to Syd atm. So no access fee?
Correct. This weekend. Just hop onto Trip planner NSW.

420 also stops and Banksia and Rockdale which is good for T4 transfers to Cronulla/ Hurstville or even to Bondi Junction.

I vaguely recall in Airport Express days also direct services from Kings Cross (which had a lot more hotels back then) and indeed searching around it also carried the 350 route number.

There was a 350 Kings Cross- Airport but later (IIRC) the 300 extended to Kings Cross- Circular quay - Airport

Bondi Junction.

Thanks!
Int/Dom to Bondi Junction:

420 to Rockdale then to T4 line and no need to change trains at Central

Rather than changing at Mascot to T8 train line and then changing at Central to the T4 train line
Or changing from 420 to 350 at Dom or Mascot and contiue to BJunct by bus

The “Airport Express” buses ceased as soon as the rail opened.

Also, there used to be a 400 express bus Bondi Junction <-> SYD.

No idea why they axed it for the 350? 🤷‍♂️

The 350 is a “milk run” route up and down the eastern suburbs beaches (nice views). The 400 was a reasonably direct service that took a fraction of the time…alas, for us the closest 400 stop was at the Bondi Junction interchange, whereas the 350 has a stop around the corner.

Note, the From 420 does not stop on the road out the back of the Holiday Inn Express, near Sarah St, only the 350 bus.
Going to the airport, the 420 does not stop on ORiordan either.
But as everyone uses these 2, 350 and 420, and the buses are never the bendy buses, they (buses) are always full.
From and to the Mascot Subway outlet (food Subway, not train subway), its always chockers full.
===
From the airport, the 350 always leaves me dizzy when I do the full run to Bondi, better to get off at Mascot Subway, and get the train to the city, the Circular Quay then to Bondi Junction, slow, but a bit less giddy.
Going the other way, I take the 350 to Mascot, walk abit, and then the 358 to Sydnenham, then the Metro up north.

In 1993/4 I lived near Hyde Park end of Oxford St, and I distinctly remember picking up the airport bus from Oxford St just out front of an small supermarket (name escapes me, but it later became an IGA), only a short walk from my apartment. Must have been the 350.

WSI will have no Metro gate fee as it’s state and federal funded.
Now, its just a waiting game so to speak, to see what the NSW gov will do about the airport line gate fee at the 2 Mascot airport stations.
Most likely, they wont take it off, but who knows.
But over the past 26 years, it would have paid itself back so much.
There are still/is still, a lot of people who use the 2 airport stations, yes, some do use the 420/350 bus.

The 400 travelled Bondi to Burwood and as a result of the long distance was almost never on time.
It was basically split into today's 350 and 420 with slight overlap around the airport stops.

It's definitely made the running times better.

The western bit (420) was split off earlier. The 400 continued to just run express between BJ and SYD up until 2021. The current 350 route bears little resemblance to the former 400 route.
