So how often does this happen because currently you can request an upgrade for a discount Y class ticket. Just lodged an upgrade for my family on the ridiculously cheap SIN flight we will be taking in August.
Thanks to Kate on the FFA facebook group for spotting this.
I've received 2 notifications in the past 4 years that it was available didn't think you could do it if you had not received the email.

My pleasure :D

I've found previously that while some people get the email, it seems to open up for everyone. I've been checking every week or so hoping it would happen and apparently today was the day. I remember it happened in 2011 before I went to the US. Can't remember if it was available last year but someone else might (I had no international flights last year).

Yes this happened to me last year when I was travelling to JFK via LAX and back out of MEL.

I got an email saying that my fare was usually unable to be upgraded but they gave me a window of 7 days to apply for an upgrade to either Y+ or J on as many sectors of the trip as I'd like.

I didn't take up on it however... I was more concerned with hanging onto my points at that stage!

Yep can confirm that my deep discount economy are now available for upgrade... no email received just noticed after reading this thread.

I also got the e-mail, but seemed to be for a very limited window - With my not so official accountant's hat on, I figured they were taking the opportunity to write down some liabilities before the EoFY. Any upgrades confirmed on or prior to June 30th should reduce open points balances and positively impact the QF balance sheet.

"This offer is only available when you register your upgrade request at qantas.com from 12:01am AEST 17 June to 11:59pm AEST 18 June 2013 for flights departing from 19 June to 2 July 2013."

Interesting...my flights are September/October, so no EoFY trigger there.

Yes Dairyfloss I was under no illusion that the offer was for a limited time only but still a bit shocked that it finishes on the 18th of June.

Interesting about for flights departing from 19th June to 2nd July, because my flights are in August & September and I know someone else who put the upgrade request in for their flight in October.

Upgrade from Red-e-deal to Flexi saver - Domestic

My company will usually allow bookings on flexi tickets only on the return leg of a business trip.

When I am booked on a saver fare with VA and the price difference is small I ring VA and pay the fare difference to upgrade out of my own pocket so that I receive the full economy SC. VA do not charge me any change fees as a Platinum FF.

Is the same possible with QF without any fees? I am also Platinum with QF if that makes any difference.

Thanks

If that was the driver then it would also help their revenue/profit as well.

Reading the whole mail again, it looks like the it might have generated based on my next actual booking. I have other, future bookings, but my next one returns on the 1st July, and so perhaps this is why the parameters are set that way for mine. I can't test later bookings as they are not in the right fare buckets to confirm anything :)

"Your chance to request an upgrade to International Premium Economy

To celebrate the end of financial year, for a limited time we've waived the usual restriction on the fare you've booked for your upcoming international flight. So you may now be able to use your points to register for a Flight Upgrade Award* from Economy to International Premium Economy.

This offer is only available when you register your upgrade request at qantas.com from 12:01am AEST 17 June to 11:59pm AEST 18 June 2013 for flights departing from 19 June to 2 July 2013.

Thanks for letting us know! I just put in an upgrade request for a forthcoming trip to Shanghai.

Flying to Hong Kong in September on a non upgradeable fare, can now access a upgrade. I did not receive the email either

Just put in for my upgrade for August flights and it also seems the option is open for a December flight. Thanks to the OP.

Wonder how these upgrade requests work - first come first serve?

I don't have any deep discount QF International Y trips booked, so I can't take advantage of this.

I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing? :p :p

A little off topic but is it possible to link upgrade requests on two different tickets? Scenario. I am flying up to Singapore separately from my family but coming back with them. I have booked one return ticket for me and one return ticket for them (ie different PNR's). I've had the PNR's linked for seating allocation purposes in economy but I was wondering if I can link the upgrade requests so that Qantas considers the upgrade request together and not separately?

AFAIK you can't link the upgrade requests but I would talk to the lounge, gate & CSM to see if they can help out even though the chances may not be good.
