QF will see sunrise as it's point of differentiation between the SQ's of the world. They are routes they are unlikely to be challenged on by other airlines.

That said not everyone wants to fly ultra-long haul, especially the back of the bus, but even at the front. So I see them running a token Asia-LHR flight of some description for quite some time, as they don't want to hand the SQ's of the world a free kick. That said, I suspect that the token SYD-Asia-LHR flight will be down-gauged, I doubt we'll see A380's flying those sorts of routes with a red-roo for much longer, plus it gives them the ability to show lots of daily services, much like how QF ran both a MEL-LAX (QF93/94) and MEL-AKL-LAX (QF25/26) service for quite some time.

I agee with most of what you have said but I have a slightly different view on the A380.

Maybe QF will see the A380 as a discount/leisure passenger vehicle esp. since they will be charging 20% extra for the ULH route. QF can still make a lot of money flying the A380 full of pax into LHR. My understanding is that if the A380 isn't full then its not making much money.

And then what happens to ULH routes if fuel prices spikes back to $200 or whatever it was a few years ago?

I've always thought, that whilst there is a degree of risk in doing so, there's an opportunity for dual branded A380's, one deck for LCC (Jetstar) and one deck for full service carrier (Qantas), flown by full service carrier of course. Might be a bit too out there to do this, but instead of flying 2 group services to HNL, as an example, you fly just one. I guess it's still four engines though ..

They'd need a lockable door on the internal stairs to make sure all the bogans stay where they're supposed to be :)

It will be a great opportunity for rusted-on QF pax to savour the joys of airlines with actual service standards, excellent hard products, and friendly non-ancient cabin crew, and without the arrogant and entitlement of QF.

Yep, PR, CI, SQ, JL, NH,...plenty of good choices out there, although the last two at present are via an advanced nation that surprisingly, with Olympics not far away, doesn't appear to have handled coronavirus at all well.

I think you mean 'arrogance' while I'd also add these Asian airlines have good meals (as 'good' as airline meals can be) on board and (as you're alluding) one never gets snarled at, asked 'whaddya want', or called 'love.'

Of the two individuals I know who fly most frequently - one domestically, the other internationally a lot - the first swears by QFd, while the second (who has a large stockpile of points in the millions) only ever flies QFi to use up their points. So it's a subject that divides.
