My partner and I haven't flown QF together for some time, in fact I think last time we did he still had AA status as OWE. A couple of weeks ago, we did fly economy together, SIN-LHR. I am SG and my partner PS status. We checked in together with bookings on same PNR, and both of our items of checked luggage were tagged with priority tags. However my suitcase came out first and I was on the train half way to T4 (to meet his mother) before his suitcase emerged. We noticed the priority tag had actually been removed from his suitcase.

Not a big deal in this instance as he remained at T3 whilst we returned from T4, and it's seemed to be a miracle that priority baggage was actually afforded priority anyway, but is it the case that only the status holder on the PNR gets priority luggage, or was it just inadvertent that this happened (was accidentally ripped off, although didn't look like it) ? If it is the case, next time we'll check in at the machines rather than counter and put both items under my name. When we travel together on EK we always both get priority baggage when on same PNR (via my QF gold status).

Was the tag cut off cleanly or ripped off? I've had many priority tags get ripped off enroute. It's not that odd.

If you check in on the same PNR and you are marked as head of baggage pool, all the tags will print with priority.

Given QFs history with priority baggage, you could probably assume that yours came out early merely because of statistics. In a random selection, bound to happen sometime.

Partners tag possibly just accidentally ripped off.

Even with separate PNR's, my partner's baggage has been checked & tagged on my name when we've been to the check-in together. And vice versa, in SFO the QF check-in allocated bags to her but tagged them with priority anyway (she's QF NB).
Though, the 'Business Priority' tags with QF seem to act more like colourful decorations rather than getting you first off the airport. The 'First Priority' tags seem to work better, as you would hope.

C'mon. Staff bags come out first. That's not due to any correlation either.

My experience going into Heathrow on QF1, is that usually the priority tags, including First come out last. I haven't been able to work out why they're there

"First" means, they are the first ones loaded. And therefore right at the back (*)

(*) This may be completely untrue and it used for satirical purposes only.

The priority tags are pretty much only for show. They don't usually determine the treatment of the bag. That is dictated by the information associated with the bar code on the luggage label (or with the Q tag). (At least at airports with barcode scanners - all bets are off at airports with manual luggage handling procedures.)
Of course you may get lucky but I am fairly sure the entitlement to priority handling only applies to the PAX with status. Recently when I flew with EK on a QF flight number I checked in with the friend I was travelling with. I asked if his bag could be taggged priority as well and the check in staff said no, and confirmed that even with the tag, his bag would not be given priority.
We were only travelling with one bag each so I checked his bag as if it was my second bag and that solved the problem. Our bags were both among the first off in Paris.
Obviously this is something you could only do with a partner, family member or other very close friend you trust completely to have no surprises in their bag!

I accept airlines tell us the barcode - rather than the tag - is the determining factor for which cargo bin the bags go in to. But when it comes to unlading - when the bin is by the reclaim and the bags have to be manually loaded, do baggage handlers look at each barcode? I suspect they go by the coloured tag.

Some airports, without fail, manage to get priority tags out. Others, they don't seem to care.

Yet my bags still seem to come out among the first when they have only a Q-tag on them and no priority tag at all!
