Hi all

This is my first post but i've been lurking for a while.

I was hoping someone could explain whether it is a good idea to select QFF points as the earning option for ICH group hotels. I know that if you stay in Australian hotels you get 3 points per $ so this sounds like quite a good earning option. It's not so good for overseas stays with just a fixed amount of points irrespective of what you spend.

This year I will earn 60K PC points. I was happy to keep them as points because I will redeem for reward nights at an expensive IC so it is worth about $700AUD to me. But in the future I'm wondering whether to earn QF Points instead. I'm pretty good at signing up for the bonuses that are going so i've earnt my points without making a whole lot of stays.

Can anyone tell me about their experience? Can you earn enough points to make it worth while?

Thanks

Welcome to AFF. Personally i'd keep them in the priority club. The coversion rate is pretty poor in my opinion as it isn't 1:1

I think you are confusing two different things, direct earn versus earning points then converting. As the OP says, you earn 3 points per $ if you credit to QF (its actually 6 points per $ until Aug 30 with the promo) and is 2 points per $ if earned in PC Points then converted.

It comes down to where you see the value, I do switch and at the moment have it crediting directly to QF since the changes to the ASA's mean I get better value from points going to QF, I also keep some points in PC for pointsbreaks redemptions which are also good value, I used 5K for the CP Adl recently for an overnight on an ASA!

If you are crediting direct to QF, the bonus codes still work, you just get mileage to QF and points to PC from the same stay. I dont think the normal points for stays are that much value when they often require the equivalent of 30000 QF points in terms of original spend, which can mean a one way J ASA versus a $200 room, and the treatment you get on rewards is certainly different at all the hotels with no upgrades etc. The only time I do redeem normal rewards is around Christmas when rooms are $400+ a night, and I see the value.

Ahh i didn't realise you could do that! I was only looking at transferringafter they were earnt. Is it easy to swap and change?

Agree with everyone here.

Keep the points in IHG if you see the value.

IMHO the value is in the high priced Hotels. I did a points / cash at the two Interconti in NYC and saved about $3k and it cost me $300.

Again for LON and PARIS get your value in the rooms.

Like everything you need to weigh up what you have, what you want and what is important.

When i fly personally, it is usually Y these days, on long haul i always treat myself to a great hotel and room. We all have different drivers and values.

Hope you get what you want.

Thanks for your replies everyone. I think I may decide to chop and change between the two options depending on where I am staying. in Australia it certainly makes sense to accrue the QFF Points but not so much overseas.

I am certainly aware of the poor treatment when staying on reward nights. For my planned redemption I have taken advice and attached some paying nights to it and confirmed I can keep my upgraded room for the reward nights.

Maybe I can play to use some QFF Points for some upgrades on international flights. That looks like the best points value to me.

Yes, its in your profile online and can be changed instantly.

Ahh excellent. I'll check it out as i have got Plat for the next 18 months. might move some over to QF on further stays. Or does it still count towards status? and what if you transfer points from say Amex?

Once you hit PLat then no point worrying about it, points for next years requal start to matter from Jan1, airline miles dont count AFAIK.

Hi markis10

I am a little confused and hope you can clarify...
I have requalified as PC Platinum this year. If I switch to earn miles on QF, do I get the base points on QF and any bonus eg. double points, platinum bonus, stay 3 get * go to PC. Or am I missing something?

As the OP says, you earn 3 points per $ if you credit to QF (its actually 6 points per $ until Aug 30 with the promo)

I am unable to find this 6 points per $ promo anywhere - is it only for elites?
Thanks

If you switch to QFF direct credit you will get 3 or 6 points when doubled per $1 (US) while any bonus points promos still credit. If they have a miles component then it goes to QFF, if its points then points are credited.

The promo for double points or miles is here:

Wow - thanks for the quick response markis10!

And thanks for that link - I signed up for double points when registered for PC and have stayed a couple of times. I wonder if I will get double points for the next stay if I swap to QF. Decisions

If you stayed the one stay already then changing the earning to miles will mean double miles, I had a function at the HI Darwin this week that I charged to the room that should result in 18K of QFF points, thats 100 SC using a JASA redemption while the nights count to the stay 7 get 10000 points bonus, or two free nights at PB.

OT but, which route gets 100SC for 18K of points?? I want one!

16000 points plus a little bit of cash

OT: Priority Club and QFF points

DRW a good one for JASA's

72K points + $250 is earning me 260SC's (MEL-xSYD-DRW-xBNE-MEL)

It could have been ~85K QFF and $0.

That's bloody good. I was thinking of doing a SC run from MEL-CNS via BNE for 240sc and about 70k of points from memory. I won't be now!

Have you looked at ADL-TSV 240 SCs for 48000 pts and $160, at least TSV and DRW have some IHG hotels to earn points in!
