Priority Checked Baggage - What a joke !

Given that "priority baggage" is a published benefit of oneworld sapphire & above, and part of the advertised service for all status/business customers on Qantas, I think it's quite reasonable to expect it to work most of the time!

My experience with QF is mixed but seems to work more often than not. It's just about a 100% success rate though at CBR.

By comparison though, QF doesn't rate too badly in my experience compared to other oneworld airlines. AB, JJ and JL have all underdelivered for me when it comes to priority baggage. On my most recent AB flight, my priority-tagged bag literally came out last! And JJ only remembered to actually tag my bag for 1 or 2 out of 5 flights.

why would qantas not do something about this... It looks like most people don't receive priority baggage... I know that at my work if we don't do some thing that's been agreed there are consequences.... I think I want a job at Qantas :)

The last time I complained, they blamed contractors.

I flew SYD/BNE in J mid-arvo a couple of weeks ago & my suitcase was 3rd to arrive on the belt. I'd barely been at the carousel 30 seconds.

Did you call them on it?

The moment I heard those words come out of her mouth, I just went "Nope, not dealing with this idiot" and buggered off to wait for the next lot of taxis to appear because everyone else had already taken them while I was waiting for my bags.

I guess I must be in the lucky group as priority baggage has always worked well for me. I travel on average twice a month, mix of domestic and international flights. Granted, this is not as frequent as some of the road warriors on here.

Nope

EVERY time I travel with a OW partner even if my bags are tagged as Priority, they always appear in the last 20 or so bags. Not sure if this is because I generally travel with a large backpack and these might be stowed differently in the hold of the airplane? But yes, "Priority Luggage" is a joke....

Been happening for ages
When I first joined QC it seemed to work but then it kinda stopped
i think it was around the time of the self checkin that it seemed to go down hill
but others could comment more. Perhaps it was earlier.
memtioned it a few times no change.
i think it's a bit better on international but one side is a foreign country doing it so it could be just a AUS internal issue.
But it may not be baggage services fault they could be getting a coughpy deal from QF mgt

In HNL recently I had a 'normal' suitcase on AA which had the bright orange priority tag on it that had been tagged in AUA through to HNL via MIA & DFW & there were so many non-priority bags that came out before mine I lost count.

Priority worked for me in the USA recently, but I have to admit I'm happy whenever I see my bag actually arrive after a connection or two.

Seriously, you've got to wonder how airline, who manage to do smarter and more complex things, can't get this right. Is it just the human factor?

I fly quite a bit internationally, and the problem is with Australian baggage handlers (the same thing happens with CX, SQ, EK, EY when coming back into Aus)- watch what happens when you fly to other international locations, priority is treated as priority.
This is the reason I generally try and travel with carry on luggage only.

Haven't we all seen those youtube clips of how gently baggage handlers treat our luggage when it's out of sight? Don't you think there's a chance that some of those guys harbour sufficient envy towards the frequent flying classes that they would delight in throwing their bags at the bottom of the pile when they see the priority tag, just to "get up their nose"?

If you don't want your bags to be singled out for "special" (aka delaying) treatment, take the priority tags off and leave their arrival on the carousel to random chance.

I must say I do wonder sometimes. Three times in the past 12 months always on connections through BNE I have had padlocks missing when I collect my baggage. Once, I though, could be unlucky, twice, quite unlucky, but three times I feel must be systemic. I have messaged Qantas and got the usual platitude response " your message is important to us etc....will reply..." but nothing yet.

I strongly suspect that someone amongst the baggage handlers at BNE resents Platinum FFs.

flying through BNE again today - with yet another new lock - and will watch with interest.

But, back to the topic, I must say more often than not my bags come through fairly early on the carousel.

Only twice in the past 4 years doing maybe 90 sectors a year have the bags not arrived - one was related to a last minute flight change / connection due to a late departure. Both arrived the next day.
