Priority Baggage on QFi - has this premium pax benefit been eroded too?

Arriving on QF32 last Sunday evening, delayed 1:26, WP travelling in F.

From first bag coming out (a stream of untagged economy bags, following by sporadic business tags), finally 20 minutes later the F tag bags come out.

I'm sorry, but putting my WP aside, if I'm travelling in F, I darn well want my bag out in the first batch as 20 minutes is ridiculous. Not good enough QF.

I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the new QF 'priority' baggage service lately? Perhaps that's part of the union's industrial action - annoy the premium pax who pay the premium fares and keep them in their jobs. Good strategy guys.

Apologies for the rant, but at 21:46, my patience is rather thin and standing around for 20 mins watching economy bags go round not my idea of a good time.

Well I just arrived on QF9 to LHR and the first bags were first out.. So I couldn't complain.

I know it can be a shocker in MEL though

I have called the luggage carousel "the great leveler".

I get annoyed about the same thing. I only take carry on 90% of the time for that reason.

If I have to check anything in now, I get my PA to wait for it and I head straight to the car.

It is VERY hit and miss!

LOL. I like the way you roll.

Hate to compare but I was travelling in the US earlier this month....flew 6 sectors and it was amazing, my priority tagged bags (thanks for AA agents being nice) was first out without fail.

Cant remember the last time QF got it right, dom or int.

Red Roo- another benefit to be looked at....

Agreed. IMO MEL is the worst.

I
ve tried that before and the customs guys wouldn't let me through with no baggage. They told it was my baggage, I had to wait for it.

The current baggage handlers are doing a pretty terrible job at the moment - no wonder the airline wants to oursource them. Seriously, they don't look like they even check the tags for priority at all. They question has to be - is the airline telling them to ignore the tags or are they just ignoring them anyway? The tags these days appear to mean nothing.

I am in the US right now and Alaska have this 20 minute garuntee with the bags. I know walking from the gate to the luggage belt can take that long but each time, the bags are already going around. They seem very efficent in unloading onto the carts and getting them to the terminal as quickly as possible. I know domestic US is very different to us but seriously, if an American carrier can do it, why can't QF?

I've said it a million times before - and last year I got caned by some on this forum for daring to criticise Australian baggage handlers, however, the fact remains that they are utterly useless wastes of space - especially at MEL.

Before they think about striking - they should think about working..... Novel idea!

I have never been called back. Nor have I been asked if I had any further luggage when going through customs. Also My PA knows the contents of my bags so he has no problems collecting them and having them taken to my home.

In MEL. I can often arrive home an hour or so earlier than my luggage.

Recently flew HKG-MEL. Checked bags in at Kowloon, tagged First. Bags were on carousel 5 almost immediately, all the bags amongst ours were tagged First / Priority.
Clearly they must get it right some of the time :)

Response from QF (which I must say in their defence - I complained at midnight last night, had an email by 10:30am this morning - so very happy with the response time - and I now have a very useful email address) ;)

Dear Mr ComeFlyWithMe,

Thank you for contacting us and your patience in waiting for this reply.

I was very concerned to hear of your experience arriving into Sydney.

We go to great lengths to take care of each piece of luggage and to ensure itis available as soon as you arrive at your destination. Occasionally thebaggage handling process can take longer than we would like and I understandhow frustrating it is when this happens.

We understand thatthis is an unacceptable situation and apologise sincerely for the anxiety andinconvenience this must have caused you.

We report on a weekly basis and the Bag Tag performance. Where unfavourable patterns areidentified it is highlighted to the particular airports in questionimmediately.

Your ongoing loyalty is highly valued and your feedback is appreciated. I have forward this on toour Baggage Performance manager as it plays an important role in our continuousimprovement process.

Again, please accept our apologies and we hope to have the opportunity to welcome you onboard againsoon.

Yours sincerely

Which just goes to show that there is no excuse for not getting it right 95% of the time.

(I allow 5% to reasonably accommodate unusual events that do occur).

I'm with you. Australian labour workforces are fairly unproductive by world standards, yet have highest pay and best conditions.

Not to worry, we'll be handling our own baggage soon the way it is going with the unions ;)

Fine by me - at least I'll have it quicker!

I was pretty impressed with my bags on CX (yes, not QF) recently. I was in Y, but my bags were tagged with First priority tags. In the first three or so bags out at DME, and the same on arrival home at BNE. I was especially impressed that between checkin at DME and arrival at BNE, my bag had acquired the priority tag. The checkin agent definitely did not put it on at checkin, and I saw my bag go along the conveyor belt without it.

Talking about ground handling agents, who looks after CX in Perth? Never seen luggage out so quickly (Status and non Status) in my life. I guess the 11pm arrival time does help, but it does make a change compared to the zoo that is Perth domestic, and most other carriers that do fly into Perth (MH, QF, SQ etc)
