From ATW Daily News:

Japan Airlines is expected to report a heavy loss Friday for its fiscal first half ended Sept. 30, increasing pressure on the carrier and the Japanese government to develop a restructuring plan to help assure investors and customers that the troubled company won't collapse.

In Tokyo last week this was in the paper virtually every day.It appears that the government will basically take over JAL for ~ 3 years-the reason is so they can pass a law reducing the pension benefits.At the moment JAL have to have retired staff agree to pension cuts which naturally they wont.
I really dont know where this puts the DL/AA conflict though it was reported that DL have engaged a Japanese lobby group.
