Just a quick question this morning. I've got to book a flight to the US on 20/2 and have been looking at going premium economy. Given the late booking there's not a lot of choice in seats, particularly as I'm travelling with one other person. Based on expert flyer. QF11 looks choccas in Y+, and QF93 looks a little better but is obviously a 747.

Is it worth booking on QF11 and picking middle seats now, and hoping lots of people have put in for an upgrade to business so we can nab better seats just before check-in or are we better booking on one of the 747 flights (QF93 are there any others?) and being able to select a pair of seats rather than the middle.

Any ideas on which way to go? I'm hoping to book this week.

Probably a bit late now, but I'd look for QF11 + Upgrade.

However, can you check the Business class loadings? D/I availability may indicate a better chance of being upgraded with points.

Not quite on point, but look at VA - guaranteed new planes, Y+ is at the front so less wait for immigration. In my view far better than QF.....but you do need an alternative to QClub.

Product-wise I prefer PE on the A380 rather than the 747

And, overall I prefer the A380 comfort-wise.

So what did you decide to do in the end?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

AVOD on VA is pretty poor, as is catering. Seat is ok but QF still have them beat. If VA were half price of QF then would consider but otherwise comfort and service on QF would win for me :)

Not disagreeing with you pauly7, as i have no personal experience, but this is different to what a few others have posted including Travel Guru.

I have had a few personal experiences, we normally fly A380 on business to LAX but flying last minute recently QF has been sold out so we gave VA a go.

AVOD really needs more content, food was Y standard (not inedible poor though) and the seat really slippery hard to get comfortable

Everyone has different opinions on everything on here... So of course other people will say different things......

I have experienced the VA entertainment & I am confused as to exactly what you thought was missing from the offerings. Is it just that your particular favourite music was not on the extensive list?
To me food on a plane is there to fill you up, not a restaurant experience.
The hard seat I overcame with an extra pillow on the base of the VA seat.
As you say we all have different expectations :)
