The current QF Premium Companion sale caught my eye: HK return in PE for only $1400 (on a 747).

My questions:

1) Is this actually a decent price? I can't find much historical data. On the basis that it's widely advertised sale, I have to assume it's not much of a saving.
2) While hard to confidently predict, is there a feel that a SG/WP member might have a decent chance of points upgrade (if travelling in, say, April 2017)? Usual disclaimers apply, I know.
3) Is there a QF flight to HK that leaves in the afternoon?
4) Why is CX charging $19000 for the same tickets? Are they drunk? Or is that the price they charge for shiny airbuses?
5) Should I find reasons to travel to HK other than exploring the lounges on the way home?

HKG return for $1400 in Y+ is good. The recently finished sale offered $1500, which I snagged for later this year. It was also booked during the DSC promotion.

Price is pretty good. I fly HKG to SYD regularly, and been able to upgrade to J 90% of the time, some times unlucky when J is oversold on the 747. Qantas adds an additional flight seasonally, not sure what time of day or the date range. CX Premium Economy is not as good as QF, not sure why they are expensive perhaps they have a more attractive schedule that provides better connections. HK is great, hustle and bustle, bargain at the markets, and plenty of choice for food options, worth a look around for sure.
