Hi again

As I have posted elswhere I have booked economy seats for MEL-SYD-NOU and
NOU-SYD-MEL for April next year.

I booked this as two separate one way points redemptions and managed to take advantage of the recent discount on points redemptions which helps soothe the pain of the carrier charges a little.

However I have come across something unusual. When I go into the first booking I am able to select my seats for MEL-SYD-NOU. These are currently 54A for MEL-SYD and 31A on the Aircalin flight for SYD-NOU.

By contrast when I go into the other booking I am told that I need to pay $15 for each seat selection.

Why is the seat selection free on the outward legs but $15 coming the other way?

cheers Peter

I just contacted Qantas. Apparently with classic award bookings one has to pay extra for seat selection. :(

However it appears that because I had the online help book the first leg for me (due to the available free seats not being visible online) I somehow am able to select my seat. No problems, I'll take the opportunity.
