Potential Buyout of SPG

I'm a Marriot man and received overnight the email announcing the merger. It was short and sweet and basically said watch this space.

So what level are you, and what do you think of the program/why do you like it?

I'm mainly an HH person, mostly because I can get status on spend and my annual ski trip gets me most of the way to diamond. SPG had the best benefits to property ratio in my mind.

Sorry, didn't see this question. I should explain. I have been, up to very recently, an Accor man and my wife was a Diamond Hilton. The reason we switched to Marriott was because until I retired 2 years ago we were allowed to stay at Accor hotels for work (all the other main hotels Hilton, Marriott, Sheraton etc..., were out of the question for work). I had also been an Advantage Plus member for over 10 years. My wife on the other hand was Diamond HH because on her Platinum status with VA. She has now dropped to Silver both with VA and Hilton. However the main reason for now switching to Marriott was we recently joined their Vacation Club and we will be building the points with them. I haven't been with the programme long enough to pass judgement yet. I have read negative reports about the programme but I guess time will tell. Know doubt it will be interesting to see what happens with the reward programmes for both Marriott and SPG if and when they merge the programmes.
