I have earnt 360 SC in my current gold year and my summary page was showing 240 SC required to retain by Oct 31. But I've just logged in and seen this screen:

Does that make me comped for the year? I had considered booking a status run....

Looks that way. Mine still says 31 Oct 2012.

I have an Oct 31 expiry as well - this thread reminded me that I has not received my new WP card after having had 2040 SC's since July. Normally it arrives mid September.

I just just checked and noticed a 2013 reassessment date.

Well, knock me over with a sledgehammer! In view of my paltry SC earn over the last year and my failure to patronise QF as indicated by the 2 next to the squiggle, I had anticipated dropping back to Silver. I'm not sure whether a comp is a good thing or a bad thing, but this puts the criticism about Virgin handouts into some perspective, methinks:

Membership Status

Current Status: Gold
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2013
Status credits earned from 01 Nov 2011: 120
Additional Status credits required by 31 Oct 2012 to attain Platinum: 1,280
Qantas segments flown: 2

You must fly a minimum four eligible flight segments on Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar and earn the required status credits to retain/attain during your membership Year

Congratulations dazz81!

But comping status without the necessary flights is really getting desperate. Wasn't there a thread recently about someone based in Europe who has qualified on SCs but did not have the required number of Qantas segments and has not been comped another year even after calling them.

Right place, right time. This "comping" has been around for quite some time

Comping has indeed been around for quite some time although the sectors have been strictly enforced the past couple of years to the point where I believe I have been reading no soft landing has been in place either.

I still think everyone should be given Platinum One status and that way no disappointments....

I had the required number of sectors and was platinum the year before.
And I congratulated you on being comped another year dazz81!

Read post #5 from arraitch and then find that thread about the person in Europe who had more than enough SCs but short on sectors and was not granted status for another year and all his requests fell on deaf ears.

And yes I know life is not meant to be fair....

Nice to know I was lucky. I thank you for your congratulations. Have you sent me a card too? hope so ;)

Congrats to those getting comped. But it makes you wonder why you go and spend the money to achieve a certain level if they are prepared to give it away.

Kind of puts that "Should I try and spend X amount to retain/attain this level or just hope I get comped" feeling in the back of ones mind.

Qantas have been doing this for years. It is not uncommon to get one comp year at a given level. The second comp is a bit harder to come by though.

What has changed somewhere, though, is that they are doing these much closer to the end of the year than they used to. It used to happen 2 months out, now it seems to be happening more often just a month out.

Its the game called "loyalty scheme chicken" - first to blink loses....

I was holding out in the vague hope it would happen actually. Had been holding off my JASA HBA-CBR return run plan. Ill use it next membership year instead now

You do it because nothing is a given. You might be comped, you also might not. You can only be sure one way.



I retired last year and have only done two domestic flights since (down from my usual 30+ work flights).
After renewing my QP membership for possibly the penultimate time, I was exceptionally surprised today to find my PS status comped/renewed for another 12 months, due to my "continued support of QF ..."
I've been SG for two years during my latter work life and have been PS for about 2 years following, so BIG surprise.
Perhaps QF does believe in Santa!

Big surprise for me, I got comped as well. Only PS, but good to hang on to it for another year.

Not sure why I got it though, I had exactly zero/nil/nada QF flights during my current membership year, and going fwd only a single SYD-MEL o/w booked for Jan. Only QF group flights since I dropped from SG in December 2011 were 4 JQ flights, all saver fares, so the segments count in my QFF profile is 0.

So if there is someone who has not "earned" a comp, I am honest it would be me. Go figure...
