Hi All,

This is my first year in QFF, my year will expire at the end of March and I will have accrued 710 SC (my calcs) and about 120,000 points.

I was very noob until I started reading this forum, I had many long haul flights on MU and MH at the start of the year with incorrect booking codes that could have helped me get close to this even though back then I didn't have a target.

My question what the required spend would be (approximate) to get to WP, including using those points?

I also could potentially do some F flights on Hawaiian air HNL-KOA Return (AA Code Share), would this help?

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

I suspect the lack of response is your question is far too general. Where are you located, willingness to do SC runs, etc all contribute to your best ways of getting to WP. The minimum earn in F is 60 SC but I can't find any AA code share flights for HNL to KOA. They appear to be only available when combined with another flight (eg LAX to KOA via HNL) but I could be wrong there. There are plenty of threads on the site for maximising SC earn (through SJU) seems popular in the US.

Yea far too general. Are you saying you need to do SC run to get the remaining 690 before march 2014? you dont have any planned holidays or work trips?

Where are you based and how much flying will you do in 2014-2015.

Ok, so you need 690 SC to qual WP.

Travelling in J from MEL-SYD return is about $1,000 (roughly), and will earn 80 SC. You would need to do 9 of these to gain 720 SC at a cost of about $9,000. That is probably the most it would cost.

If you did the same as a JASA the cost would be 32,000 points, and $220 per return trip. So 4 of those would use up all your points and cost $880, with 5 more to do at $5,000. (You would earn points on those flights, so you may be able to sneak in a 5th JASA).

With a bit more work, and indirect routing that cost can be brought down, or SC earn increased.

I hope you get the idea. It is up to you to decide if it is worth the chase.

Look at SC runs to TSV or DRW.

Better still TSV/BNE/DRW return 280SC's.

Sorry gents for the lack of detail... And thank-you for the responses! :D

HNL-KOA is possible on AA code share but it will not work on the Australian AA website, you will need to be on the American one or over the phone.
One RTN here would add 120 SC for relatively cheap I think...

I am based in BNE, and the 710 SC is including flights over Christmas to HNL and ORL/JFK/Canada etc. I could add in a JFK-DCA F rtn in this trip instead of the train as well and that would be another right?

So I would still need 450 SC with only 120k points to use.

I suppose the purpose of this post was to try to quantify the value of WP as well, I've never reached it or really talked to anyone who has it - just the threads on these forums...

Howdy Shinkz,
If as you have suggested AA code share flights can booked on inter-island journey's within Hawaii , then certainly this is a very good way of obtaining SC's & something I was unaware of, so you have taught me something new!

As An FYI , as you were suggesting that you might travel to Canada, AA code shares with West-Jet within Canada & you could get some handy SC's , but you may need to be booked on a flight originating from the US (Ie from DFW) in order to get a code share flight. Worth Investigating if Canada is on your travel radar.

The great thing about AFF is that there are both men and women on it.

Ask yourself what it is you want to get from WP and then you will be able to decide if it is worth it for you. It may not be worth the effort (and cost).

You are the only that can answer that question. Even if others tell you it is worth it their situation or desire would not be the same as yours.

Is Platinum status worth it? You can easily quantify the value of Platinum by reading the benefits of status on the Qantas website.

Good luck.

So sorry m'lady it was not intended to offend.

Thanks for all the help guys, this is my first year in any frequent flyer program so all your advice has been tip top. I will have to weigh out the pros and cons and try to properly research some of the runs I can get away with ex-BNE.
