Cudos to ctrip.com & Stamford Brisbane.

The Brisbane lockdown came half way through our quick inner city staycation. It was booked on ctrip.com the night before, non refundable for $143/night.

Knowing it was prepaid and non refundable I still did venture to the very busy Stamford checkout desk. Understandably they directed me to ctrip.

I really couldn't be bothered calling and a night in their comfy bed was going to be ok anyway. By 1pm we started to realise that after 6pm we were being asked to stay in the room, only food was room service, then tomorrow no big staycation brunch. We have our own home just 6 kms away.

I made a call to the ctrip 1800 number, total time 3 minutes and they said they would ask Stamford. They promised to call back within 15 minutes.

10 minutes later, a 33 second phone call confirmed that we would be refunded the second night and we could check out.

About ten minutes later an email from ctrip confirming that the refund had been processed. Of course, yet to see the cash on he account.

Seems that some parts of the travel industry have adapted to the new cancellation normal.

The problem with Kiwi is that they book "self-connecting" itineraries - i.e. you have bought two separate plane tickets through Kiwi, and no protection in the event that a flight is cancelled / disrupted.
