Portable GPS...worldwide use.

It's possible to download the next day's travel on Gmaps at a hotel with wi fi.. but it's a lotta messin about.
We try very hard to use the local phone network, data is cheap and getting cheaper.
In the past I have lugged a 5" screen Garmin, a bulky dash mount, the power cord and paid $$$ for current mapping for eu or us
We have also used an ipad with a local sim..
No more… local sim, iphone x (super loud directions and great battery life) and away we go…..

But I just use my phone with Maps.me pre-loaded with where I'm going. No local SIM needed. No local network needed. It all works while in flight mode or data roaming off. The phone literally becomes a stand-alone GPS.
